Thumbs up Hatfields & McCoys

I know I'm not the only GCer who enjoyed this. It first aired on The History Channel and is now on Lifetime.

52 million viewers. People have not tired of the Hatfield and McCoys story. They did a good job with this series.

No matter how much I read about this feud, I'm still that he married her cousin. Almost every scene makes me say "these mofos needed HOBBIES! They were fighting over ANYTHING!" and "daaaag, they drank all day and everyday!!"

What say you, GCers?

I loved this. I thought it was a phenomenal mini-series. I think Tom Berringer deserves some sort of award. And Kevin Costner is still hot.

The kid who played Cap Hatfield is a local Kentucky resident and actor. He's right from the area the feud took place.

LOL. I kept switching sides because I kept getting them mixed up. They were all both wrong and right for the things they did to each other.

Oh to be a fly on the wall of those Hatfield-McCoy family reunions of recent years. They supposedly are cool as a fan now.

I work with a McCoy. She's a twit. She knew nothing of the series, but where she's from/where we work really isn't very far from the KY/WV region at all, maybe 70 minutes drive north. Her family has been in the southern Ohio area for as long as she can remember, so it wouldn't be a surprise if she were some relation.

I was on Team Hatfield.

I've seen the first episode. I've been waiting for my husband to watch it with me and he's not in any hurry. He got pissed that I started without him. Can't win for losing. He's annoying me as I type.

Does anyone know if it's airing again soon? I was able to DVR episodes 2 and 3, but missed #1. So now I'm stuck until I can watch #1. I didn't see it on the schedule for the rest of the week, but I didn't realize it was on Lifetime now...I only checked History.

I'm partway through episode 1, but I'm not sure if I'll keep watching. Maybe it's because I have no idea who either of these families are, but it's just not drawing me in. My complete lack of American history is not helping at all :/

Loved it. Had to watch the beginning of episode 1 to totally understand the feud and what in the hell it was all about. In the end, the McCoy side seems to be...um...how do you say, an idjit!
Had to look up the whole feud to understand what happened to all of 'em in the end.

The only problem I had was in the last episode, learning of the fate of everybody, it's hard to see the white writing. Other than that, everything was good.

Haven't seen it but I know that both groups were Scots West Highland Clans, which means they were the original red necks. Cue banjo music. Feuding is a longstanding West Highland tradition and why the Scots were amongst the most feared warriors in Europe for millennia. Bagpipes are instruments of war. Never anger anyone with a Scottish temper.

Hmmmm, I know early and medieval Scottish history really well, I'm wondering why it's not ringing any bells.

Episodes 2 and 3 keep re-airing. I do not know when Episode 1 will re-aire on History or Lifetime. I'm sure it will. I am also sure they are gearing this for a profitable dvd release.

For those unfamiliar with the Hatfields and McCoys, their feud has been a (mainstream culture) running gag in the United States of America for generations. People say things like "...what are you, the Hatfields and McCoys?!" I have been intrigued by this feud since childhood.

People sometimes think the phrase "the real McCoy" came from this feud. Although that would be cool, it is widely held as untrue. The alleged origins of "the real McCoy" (or "the real McKay") are sometimes debated because everyone claims it began with them. LOL.

I am not from Kentucky/West Virginia, nor a student of the feud, but, Hatfield is an English name (Hatfield House is where Elizabeth I spent some of her childhood). I had read somewhere long ago that the English/Scottish and Confederate/Union differences added gasoline to the fire of this feud. I watched the series and enjoyed it. I really felt sorry for Roseanna and most of the other non-combatants caught up in this violent saga.
