^^^ I love that! I'll show it to my daughter when she gets home! There is a new W&L graduate from our hometown, and they're going to chat when he comes home for his sister's HS graduation (she's in my daughter's class). His sister told my daughter that he was really excited when he found out she is going to W&L.

I missed this.

When is the trip? You know... I could spy and report back. She doesn't know what I look like, does she?

15 lbs. of ground beef, 30 pounds of pasta, 135 oz. alfredo sauce, 670 oz. marinara sauce, 440 cans/bottles of water/soda pop/beer, 1200 napkins (yeah, too many, I know), 120 knives, 120 spoons, 420 forks, 600 plates (cake, salad, real food), one brand new Sam's Club card. Cake is ordered. If I ever get the bright idea to go into catering, someone talk me out of it, please.

Still need to get- table covers, decorations, green beans, rolls, butter, potato salad, chicken (purchasing cooked already), tossed salad ingredients and some HUGE zip lock bags.

You are freaking me out! I'm scared! How many guests are you anticipating? It sounds like 200. I had not planned on nearly that many, but who knows how many will come with the no RSVP/"open house" format all the kids here do? I'm going to go curl up in a fetal position now in a dark room!

We decided to go with a High Tea/Tea Party theme...lots of fancy treats, little sandwiches, scones, sweet tea, pop, etc., but we're still 2 weeks away.

From our formal guest list, I anticipate about 120 (family, neighbors, good friends). Then I figure hypo's friends and the marching band (why did she have to be in the band?) will be another 100 or so. In planning the food though, I counted the high school kids as half people because I know they'll be party hopping all day and probably won't eat as much as the guests who are just coming to our party (our relatives, etc.). I could be eating pasta for a very long time if they don't eat much, but I'm more worried about running out of food. It's also the same kind of open house, no RSVP deal so it is REALLY tough to plan. I have 10 long tables and 80 chairs. I hope the whole band doesn't show up at once. I hope they come in waves. That's my biggest fear.. the whole band could show up at one time.

From my experience even smaller more tightly knit friend groups don't always show up at the same time, especially since other kids have to stay at their grad parties all day. Also I never minded standing or sitting on the ground, who in their home has room for several hundred people on a given day? They'll all be more excited about food in general or just hanging out than anything.

Also if worse came to worst and you did start running out you could always quick order a pizza or subs or something. If it came to that, which I doubt it will because most everyone just grazed all day from what I remember.

Well, it didn't take as long to brown 15 pounds of ground beef as I thought it would. I was able to do about 7.5 lbs at a time, in two frying pans on the stove and my electric skillet simultaneously. Only took about 35 minutes!

My baby girl graduates tomorrow. My dad and his wife got into town last night. My dad's wife made a quilt for hypoallergenic as a graduation present. Hypo got to pick out the fabrics last summer but didn't know what the main squares were going to be. They are copies (transferred to fabric) of several awards that she has received and poems she has written, in her own hand writing. It is absolutely gorgeous. She also made her a matching pillow sham. My dad took her shopping today and bought her laptop for college. Then his wife took her shopping again and they picked up a neoprene case for the laptop, a lap desk, a one cup coffee pot, lots of flavors of coffees and some pepperspray (lol).

Tomorrow I have to cook all the pasta, hit up Gordon's Food Service for potato salad, tossed salad, green beans and table covers and hit up Party City for decorations and balloons. I also have to do laundry so I can pack for my business trip at some point. Tonight, I need to iron my two dresses (one for graduation, one for the party) and hypo's graduation gown and pay bills. And here I am, on greekchat...lol.

Awww shucks, thanks *hugs* but you already ARE an awesome mom, sis.

I will not deny, hypo and I are having our moments with each other lately. Our emotions are really in overdrive and we've been rather snarky and short with each other. We are careful to apologize after we know we've been out of line though and it will be ok. This really is an emotional struggle at times because I want to see her pursue all of her dreams and continue to grow but at the same time, it is hard to have to let her go. I am far from a helicopter parent and have always encouraged independence, but the thought of not seeing her for months on end is tough! She did make sure she got a laptop with a webcam so we can Skype though

Party tomorrow.. I need some sleep!

I hope everything goes smoothly, and that you are able to relax and enjoy the party! Emotions will probably calm down after all the stressful events are over...somewhat.

The emotional effects of graduation have revealed themselves in a different fashion at our house...I believe my daughter has said, "I love you" to us more times in the past month than she has in the previous 18 years! Which is good, because with the hormonal level of her 14-year-old brother right now, I can use all the love I can get!

That's been happening a lot too, usually during the apologies though

As Hypo was sending me texts last night asking questions about bank accounts, it dawned on me that we leave three weeks from tomorrow. I don't know if I'm ready for this, but I don't have a choice at this point, do I?
