Big/Lil sis revealing
Okay my chapter reveals big sis's the same way every year with a scavenger hunt. However this year everyon has made it a point that the scavenger hunt is to much of a chaotic event. This is wht happens we send the pledges out to collect various items from local buisness and then have them come back and their big sis is the one who has the matching item from the hunt. SO my question to you guy is can anyone think of a inventive fun way to reveal big sis's other than a scavenger hunt? Thanks for taking the time.

Scavenger hunt is what we did, too. Pledges went to different stations throughout town, learning something about SAI at each stop. It was a LOT of fun, but ::sigh:: I'm sure it's now considered hazing. I don't know how my chapter handles it these days.

At UAH... my Chapter, KD..
We were locked in our chapter room while actives were outside... an Alum came inside with car keys..... handed each of us a set.. and walked us outside...
when outside we were met with bright headlights..
our objective was to find the car that matches the keys.... and inside was our Big Sister... who was covered with a sheet so you couldn't see her..
Of course our Big Sister were not in their own cars in order to make it interesting.

I think ours is pretty cute. In short, the little has one end of a string (usually ends up being a ball or two of yarn ) and the big is at the other end, and the little has to meet the big at the end. Here's the part that makes it fun though. We hold it in a park in town that happens to have a fair amount of trees, playground equipment, and other things that string can be wrapped around. The bigs go to the park about a half hour before the littles are to arrive and they wrap the string around the trees and such in a huge maze where the strings are just like a big spider web. When the littles arrive they find their sign with their name on it that has their end of the string. They keep following their string that goes in many different directions and around several objects until the end (which takes anywhere from 5-15 min on average...depending on how tricky your big is ), where there is one last present. With the present their is a card or something like that, and the big reveals her name or a clue that totally gives it away. And while the little is opening her present/reading her card the big always finds a way to sneak up behind her so that when the little turns around she is right their for a big hug! I think its so cute!

The yarn-spiderweb thing seems to be popular at plenty of APO chapters. . .mine does something simpler and less time consuming, though. We just have the pledges meet the Brothers at a pre-determined time and we "reveal" the bigs all at the same time. They go away for an hour or so to get something to eat, and then they come bacl for a chapter party.

I also did a scavenger hunt when I pledged, and it was too funny, the last place we got to was the bathroom on one of the women's dorm floors. Each stall had a pledge's name on it, and your big sis was in the stall!
They were getting worried, though, my pledge class took forever to find them!
The chapter I advise invites their NM's over, and gives each of them a champagne flute. Each sister has a pitcher of sparkling apple cider, and they go around filling the NM's glasses. When a NM's glass overflows, the one who caused the overflow is her big sis. Slightly messy, but very fun!

The past few semesters my chapter of ADPi has kept with a tradition. Each new member is given half a poem. Each take turns and read it out load. When they finish their part their big sis (diamond sis) finishes it. I know that I always picked out poems that showed how much I really cared for my new lil sis(diamond sis). I liked doing revealing this way, because you got those really touching moments.

when i pledged (97) the pledges all got cards that told them what to dress like the night of big/lil. i was told to dress as a devil. when we all got to the chapter room all the sisters that weren't getting little's were standing around a white sheet that divided the room. (all the girls that were getting little's were behind the sheet) one by one the big's would stand behind the sheet and read some characteristics of the "character" that their little was. For example, my big said, my little is red hot, mischevious, and is comfortable in the southern heat. a little cheesy i know. anyway, i figured out she was talking about a devil. when she came out to greet me from behind the sheet she was dressed as a devil too. some girls came as gum ball machines(that takes some creativity), crayons, angels, cowgirls, etc. it was a lot of fun and it made for some cute pictures.
during our spring rush (which isn't that big so we have less girls) the big will bring a cutely decorated bowl of ice cream to the house and on the bottom is the name of the big. (it is usually a clear bowl with the name on a piece of paper and taped to the bottom-name side up, that way you can't just turn over the bowl and see the name) the girls have to eat to the bottom to see who their big is.

We actually have ritual for revealing...it's one of our cermonies. I don't think I can say too much about it, but it's really neat.

This is a lot like how my chapter did big sis lil sis revealing. It's really a special way to do it because you feel like the two of you complete each other!

Every year my chapter does the Big Sister Revealing differently. Last year when I got my big, my pledge class had to wait in the backyard for awhile and then we were led into the house (I think with our eyes closed).
We were led to the living room and faced to look at the dining room and when we opened our eyes, we saw all the active sisters standing around the dining room, with a hundred balloons (perhaps wine and blue?) floating around. We were told that our bigs' identities were in the balloons, so soon there were 60 girls running around popping balloons. It was noisy but fun. I got kind of worried because I couldn't find my own balloon for the longest time and considered giving up and just walking over to Morgan b/c I KNEW it was her, but then I found mine and it had a little fortune-type piece of paper that said "Morgan <3's (heart's) Dyan."
Then there were festivities.
ps: I am really nervous now, I can't remember the simplest things from less than a year ago. I should really document this stuff, b/c if I can't remember it while I'm 19, no way will I remember when I'm 90.

This is slightly how we do it too. We have a candle passing that reveals our bigs and littles. The new lil will get up in the middle of the circle and read half of a poem that her big sis chose. After she has read half of it the candle starts going around, it will usually stop at some people that are in the bigs family and of course many people try to trick the new little. It usually gets really emotional, but it was one of the most special things I think I have ever experienced.

PJ party
My friend who is a Phi Mu at Oklahoma City gave me this cute idea (which we are thinking of using in the fall). The big sis buys matching pj's for her and her little. And then they have a PJ party (just for the girls) and when the littles are alowed in the room they can find their big b/c of the matching clothes. I also heard of it done with costoms (angels, tigers, etc).
We ususally do the scavenger hunt, or this ballon-poppint thing. Some of the girls in my chapter made matching T-shirts, one would say D and her littles would say Z.
Others made T-s with sayings on them. My little's t said "My big sis is a greek goddess." and mine would say "I'm a greek goddess." Just cute things like that!

we do different things every year. mine was kinda interesting but it was the best night of my pledge semester. our class started off with a scavenger hunt then we ended up at our parking garage on campus. actives led us on a trust walk to the top where we were told to kneel, open our eyes and on the ground was a pie that our big sis made us and their name or a clue of some sort was at the bottom. My big didn't actually make her pie so i techically didn't have to eat it cuz her picture was underneath the pie plate. but it was nice that she thought of me. (she got me a sugar free apple pie cuz i am a diabetic.)
other times, we have done the yarn trail where the big sis or a clue is at the end of the trail. this one time we had all of the big sis's on the top floor of the parking garage and the lils on the 4th floor. the lils were given a gift from the moms. inside was a pair of socks and nail polish. they had to run up to the top floor to find the sister with the same socks AND the same nail polish on. we got to throw some girls off by having non big sis's wear the right socks but the wrong nail polish.
