Upperclassman Worries

Hi ,
I am a junior that recently transferred from a small private university to a large public university. Although there were sororities at my precious university they were not national and they were not my style so I chose not to become a part of them. And since there were only four I found limitations on meeting true people I felt comfortable enough to call sisters. Now going to a larger university I feel and see more options for myself. But I am worried about trying to rush as any junior. Do I truly have a shot at getting in a sorority or am I just too old? Please be honest because I'd rather know now than have my heart set on something that might not happen. Thank y'all so much!!!

You're not NECESSARILY too old but if it is a very large, very competitive Greek system (and not in California which seems to make a difference) you will need 1-stellar grades and 2-a very open mind about which chapter you will accept. The most competitive chapters likely won't take any juniors except those where several of the members already know the girl and she has some credentials that really make her worth it. If it's a system where the vast majority of the pledges are freshmen, they're giving up 2 years of membership (and the associated money) to take a junior. That's not to say it doesn't happen. It does. But I'd go in looking for the good in those few chapters that might be struggling to meet quota. And make sure you've checked every other box suggested for your school - recommendations, the right clothing, the right spring events, a mastery of the social graces. Some or more rigorous than others and I'd do lots of reading (and not a lot of talking) on here to find out as much as you can about rush at your college.
