I thought the same, and hope that treatment will be effective. DreamfulSpirit please know I'm keeping you, your mom and your family in my thoughts.

How about some good news for this thread, and to give others hope...

G had a pet scan today and the spots in her lungs are GONE. Her chemo is working I should get more info tonight at the band concert from her mom. I was so afraid the news was going to be different...

Ready for some more good news?!?!

The doctors believe they truly caught my Mom's cancer early. She'll be having surgery in the first week of January. It is located in the most common spot, as well as in the best spot for surgeons to get to. And depending on how early they caught it, she may not have to go through radiation and/or chemo!

They also said that if she had waited until she turned 50 to do the colonoscopy (she'll turn 50 in April), it probably would have been a different story.

Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers!

AGDee and DreamfulSpirit:

Wonderful news on BOTH accounts!

DreamfulSpirit- I am just curious (and forgive me if you posted this previously)- how was it that your mother had a colonoscopy at age 49 instead of 50?

My mom said she noticed blood in her stool back in October and that's what prompted her to go. My grandfather, her dad, passed away from colon cancer in 2008 and he was only 71. He was diagnosed a few years before, and had major surgery and everything. When he was initially diagnosed, they believed he had the cancer at least 6 years prior.

My brother and I will probably end up having colonoscopies before we're 40.

I am extremely high risk for colon cancer and get them annually but I also have Crohn's Disease so it is justified for that reason too. I figure it's not a case of "if" I get colon cancer, it is "when".

Hey everyone. A year ago today I found out my stepdad had cancer (my mom didn't want to tell me at school so told me when I flew in for the holidays). I'm happy to report that after a surgery, chemo, radiation and a bunch of side effects he's still going through, he is cancer free. His scans have come back negative.

I had some pretty severe pains in my lower abdomen tonight. I tried to shake it off because I was hanging out with my bestie but I ended up going home. Around 1am, the pain was enough to bring me to my knees and I started to vomit. I saw blood and decided to go to the ER. Blood work, a CT, an ultrasound, and two pelvic exams later, I have been diagnosed with a tumor (a teratoma to be exact). Instead of seeing my PCP next week, I'll be coming in to talk about surgery options. They are not sure of the exact location of the tumor but warned me there is a strong chance they will have to remove my ovary. However, the doctor said I am young and healthy so he is very hopeful that it is benign. Any and all prayers would be appreciated on this end because I am in total shock.

Thanks guys. My family insisted I not be alone tonight so I am (begrudgingly) comfortable and well-cared for at my parents' house. I really am okay...It's just that I didn't think some stomach pains and fatigue would turn out like this. When you're 26 and healthy, "tumor" is not a word you expect to hear. It was a very scary night on the whole but I'm doing much better now that the shock has worn off some. Fingers crossed that this thing comes out with no complications.
