Swamp People
Does anyone else watch this? My husband and some of the kids never miss it. I can't get past the subtitles--the people are speaking English! Maybe I only understand them because I grew up in the middle of Cajuns but still!
One of the girls wants a "Choot Him, Lizbutt" shirt for Christmas. (This daughter is unlikely to pledge in the future, haha.)

I cant believe it's a series either. I always thought the reason they had to give subtitles to understand what was said was due to the fact that a lot of them are missing teeth. I never thought about it from a cajun viewpoint!

They're probably missing teeth from getting smacked by gator tails.
The Black Cajun lady who helped raise us used to call at Christmas. A few years ago, she called and began speaking to one of the teenagers, who looked at the phone weirdly (I could see her across the room) and yelled, "Mom! It's one of your foreign students!"
I could not begin to eat some of the stuff that the swamp folks eat. Honestly, if you know what some of that looked like when it was still alive...

As someone who lives right in the middle of this area- PLEASE do no think this is how we are. I do not personally know any of the people on the show but I do know several people who know Troy and his family. I can tell you a lot of this is exaggerated for televsion. He and his family own several businesses and are actually quite wealthy. Now I can't say anything about the others but I would think it is much the same. It makes good T.V. and it has actually done a lot for tourism in this area (not that we really had a problem with that).

Yeah, Greek or Geek, she identified herself as a Black Cajun as did the rest of her massive family. She can call herself whatever.
Tootiepie, I agree, that swamp people group is atypical! My great grandfather was mayor of Zwolle and he would've been slack-jawed at that show.

I get a little upset with the way Cajuns are portrayed in T.V. and movies. Just as I get upset when everyone thinks people from my homestate of Ky. are backwoods possum eating hillbillies!!!!

Zwolle tamales! We got a lot of patients from Zwolle, especially two inbred families with a rare inherited disease called proprionic acidemia.

Oh dear! Maybe that's why he moved to Texas a few years after he finished his terms.
Anytime I mention Zwolle to people from Louisiana, they crack up. I'll have to visit.
