Question MTV Sorority Life

Hey ladies what's your feedback about the show..Here is mine..

1) The commericials made it seem like these young ladies were really shallow about the "greek system".

2) The Sorority seems strict with the Jewish foundations but some of the rushee's didnt know that Jews dont believe God being risen on the third day.

I didn't watch the actual show but I saw the previews for the show and I was not slightly interested in what they had to say cause they seemed to be making a joke about sororities and that makes me mad. When I tell certain people that I am in a sorority they look at me like I'm this airhead that gets drunk all the time. Just yesterday I went to the doctor's to get a physical and told him I just wanted to make sure I was okay before I went on a trip to Miami with my sorority. After about 5 minutes he said, "well I hope you know drinking can kill you, just don't get into those drinking parties!" This has been my doctor since I was 10 years old and he never said anything about drinking, but when I told him I was in a sorority he automatically assumed that I drink. I say all of this to say that MTV portrayed sororities to be just what people "THINK" they are and I didn't want to add to there ratings.

Hello ladies and gentlemen. I guess I was late about the MTV show cause I sure did not know about it. I must agree with babydoll3 that a lot of people think that sororities and fraternities just party, drink, and act wild and crazy. I know that this is not true. The same thing happened to me when I told my parents that I was interested in becoming a member of a sorority. They told me how those ppl drink and act wild on spring break. (I had to school them real quick) From what I am hearing about MTV's show, I'm glad that I did not watch it either. When MTV aired that program, they may have put bad thoughts and images into a lot of ppl's minds about sororities and fraternities which is not good at all. -Yemaya-

I didn't watch the show but I heard about it. Getting drunk and having wild parties is the number one perception most people get about greeks. Sadly, but true television shows like this one is where some nongreeks get their first exposure to greeklife.

I actually watched the show and i think MTV did try to mis lead audiences a little but then again everything they showed was said.....I noticed that the girls that were already in the sorority were so serious about their organization and i felt bad that these new few were making them look like drunkin airheads....but like in life you could see who was in for the right reasons and who just wanted to be on tv showin their true colors....i think everyone should watch the show cuz you will see the vibe that the already members had and they seemed like cool peoples...just though i would share...

Sorhors and Friends,

It just reminded me of my old days at the University of Delaware and how every fall and spring the 16 different caucasian sororities had their rush week and selected their pledgees or rather gave them a bid. Moreover, the ladies on last night's show, that were already part of the sorority, were very serious about their organization but the new members they let in need some real help. They (some of the women) don't even seem like real college material. I can't believe that the one girl didn't know the difference between Judaism and Christianity. She needs to pay attention in history class, better yet take a comparative religion course in college.

Question please school me ladies...

I attend a HBC and I am not familiar w/ other GLOs and how they handle their sorority business. Are they letting the whole world in on their intake process and everything? Or do they have one?

For the most part, the national [NPC] sororities are like us in that they keep their business their business (which is why none of them signed up for this show) but the sorority being profiled on the show is a local. So how they choose to deal with PR and their business is entirely up to them.

Sad part is this will shape and mold people's ideas about sorority life. My first exposure to greek life was the movie School Daze. I figured at my age 7, they had to be exaggerating the real deal. Unfortunately, there are those who will base anything negative they see on the show for greek organizations in general. I think the show might not be a good idea and MTV/Viacom is just trying to draw more viewers for profit. That is just my opinion.

What I would like to know about this sorority?

Why do they have four greek letters?

And if they (the pledgees) don't fit all of the dumb a$$ stereotypes about a sorority. All I can say is that some of those young ladies are unbelievably stupid and seriously lack some morals. I had to turn the channel after ten minutes of that episode. I totally agree with you (Ninjapoodle) on that one! MTV could just play some videos during that time slot.

There is a website that explains it: http://www.sigmaaepi.com

The show is pure entertainment. It sucks that those pledges are presenting themselves in that light but I'm sure they are upset now that its out there for the world to see. And I wonder how the campus views the sorority now....

Angry

I watch the show and I find myself laughing alot! I think that MTV is going to make everyone think that that is how sorority's really work but I must beg to differ!! They didn't show them doing anything but drinking, parying, and primping! With all of that who has time for CLASS!! These girls should be kicking themselfs in the butt because the only thing the show is displaying is that the members are VERY SHALLOW!! I know if it were my sorority I would be upset that they made us look that way. I also wanted to point out that in one episode they had the pledges late at night MOVING ROCKS!! Isn't that called HAZING!!!! I know that if that were a BGLO they would be in some serious trouble. But they called it a bonding activity I think the show sucks and that they could have found a better way to display the sorority or found a better sorority in general!!
well that is my cents on that!

What's sad is that these girls[Sigma Alpha Epsilon Pi] probably thought they were doing a good and noble thing by wanting to show the world that sorority life isn't all that stuff you see in movies and on tv (I hear that argument all of the time). What these girls dont understand is that MTV, just like any other PROFIT based business, is concernedabout is the bottom line--ratings. No one is going to watch a bunch of college-aged women giving each other "warm and fuzzies" The veiwers want to see catfights, blackballing, backstabbing, drunk girls, unlady-like behavior, etc..

MTV is got what they wanted. Editing is a magical thing.
