MTV's Sorority Life
MTV's new reality series "Sorority Life" begins this evening, 10:30 p.m. EST. ...though I'm sure it'll be rerun several times throughout the week.
Tune in & let's discuss!

I watched this Monday night with 2 of my Tri Delt friends. We all had a good laugh at most of it. We were a little annoyed that they kept saying pledge and rush and rushee, instead of the Panhellenically Correct way! I think that the sisters were clearly divided on the selection of new members, which will probably lead to inner conflicts in the future. I understand that they are a non-exclusive organization, unlike the other NPC national sororities on their campus, but they do have to take into consideration that some girls might just be doing this to be on Real World: Sorority. That's basically what I see this show as. Also some of the comments that the sisters made during the dessert party...how could they talk about PNMs in the open like that? Their selection process boggled my mind, I saw no organization whatsover, and couldn't even imagine if everyone was just allowed to talk freely during selections in our chapter! I guess since they are a small chapter, they can do it. I laughed when they complained about a 3 hour meeting to discuss maybe 20 girls though! I'm sure we all have been through selections a LOT longer than that.
Well, enough of my rambling, what did everyone else think?

I was at NLC during the first airing of the show. But I watched the other day. It drives me crazy that I go to such lengths to explain to my non-greek friends about how good it is to be in a sorority, and that we don't haze, and we aren't bitchy, everything that I have said is worthless now. Non greek people and most incoming freshman that will be rushing don't understand that SAE pi isn't a NPC sorority and that npc sororities have national standerds. And I about went nuts when they were talking about PNM's during the parties and had boys at thier rush events! I could go on and on but I will stop

Okay, anyone keeping up with this show?
So, joining a sorority is all about getting ready to party, going to party..and oh yeah, those mean ol' sisters make you do things like LIFT ROCKS!
<sigh> As if we expected much more?!
I'm wondering if the Sigmas are viewing the shows for the first time - as we are - and what effect it will have on their sisterhood...

uhh...I think the show sounds a little shady if you ask me. They obviously do not do things the way panhellenic does. What bothers me is the image it is giving sororities. I think MTV is going about this show the wrong way...why can't they just have some documentary on sororities or something?? Why does the whole world need to know how a sorority chooses its members?! MTV needs to address the fact that this is not a national panhellenic sorority which is what most people are familar with. I give the show a thumbs down, but I'll probably still watch it I guess

Although I did not see the show, one of my fellow Sigma Xi's told me about it. Yes, the whole concept is cheesy. Sorry, but is nothing sacred?
From my understanding, underneath the cliches, they addressed an important issue in the first installment. "To be more exclusive or not?" I know that my chapter went through that whole mess. It was interesting to hear about how another GLO dealt with the quality/quantity issue.
Have any of you checked out the section about the show on the MTV website? When I looked at some of the "pledges" profiles, I noticed that many of them were not the typical 18 y/o new member. That's kind of cool......
Last but not least......could you imagine MTV being at your chapter during recruitment??!!

This show cracks me up. And during my recruitment, my "Gamma Chi's" did a skit about MTV's Sorority Life, everybody in the auditorium was cracking up!
