Tonight's GOP Candidate Debate in Las Vegas

Who else watched it? I was amused by the debate and the "afterparty." It is re-airing now. I thought about watching it again but this LMN movie is real kickass.

This debate was intense and hilarious.

What I posted in the "what do you feel like saying" thread:

Michele Bachmann annoyed me for three reasons:
1.) I think her team is trying to make her look and sound like Sarah Palin.
2.) All of the smiling into the camera...blah...and when she went on her "mothers of America, don't worry, I will fight for your homes/jobs/whatever..." answer. That is definitely a gender and mother link she is making. I appreciate candidates' abilities to reach target audiences and use their similar identities to do so, but that just seemed like a strange answer to the question.
3.) She was one of the least interesting candidates this evening and I forgot she was there a few times.

Four of the candidates were fussing and darn near cussing at each other and I liked when Newt Gingrich said something to the effect of "bickering amongst us is not going to help things...." Romney and Perry were fussing THE MOST. THE MOST.

I completely agree with everything you said about Bachmann. I actually thought when she first came on and started talking "has she always resembled and sounded like Palin?" .. I was amazed at the likeness tonight.

And that answer she gave was very weird. Like you said, I understand trying to gain support from certain groups, but the way she went about it here was all wrong. The fact that she kept repeating "I will fight for you, mothers of America" and other phrases like it made it more awkward.

I kind of liked the back-and-forth between Romney and Perry. Take the gloves off, guys!

I did enjoy listening to Rick Santorum try to respond to Cooper telling him that only 1% of America (or Republicans?) thinks he could beat Obama, while 40% believes Romney can. When his defense started with something along the lines of, "Most Americans couldn't even name one of us (a Republican candidate) until recently," I knew it could only get better from there...

I swear that is intentional. Sarah Palin is not a candidate so Bachmann is being marketed as "kind of like Sarah Palin...but better than Sarah Palin."

Her answers were very weird. It really reminded me of Sarah Palin. Bachmann has a horrible team.

Haha same here! I think the audience wanted to say the same thing, but instead used laughter to get that thought across

Ha they sure did. I was amazed at how obvious it was that they were leaning toward Romney.

I didn't watch it because I was doing massive amounts of homework but...

I always find the primary season interesting because people within their own party have to battle against each other first. Then, once a candidate is clear, they have to start supporting this person that they ripped to shreds. So first they emphasize their differences, then they have to come back together so the party wins. It's always an interesting dynamic. I think that's what I enjoyed so much about the last election. Both parties had to go through that process instead of just the non-incumbent party going through it.

I saw some of the exchanges between Romney and Perry this morning on the news.

And said "Damn!" when Romney said "You're just mad because you're low in the polls" or whatever he said to that effect. Also, I really really really hate Rick Santorum.

It'll be interesting to see whether they self destruct.
