Greek Life at the University of Kentucky!

I'm just curious, what are the sororities at the University of Kentucky like? I know I'm supposed to keep an open mind and stray away from rumors and tent talk, but I'm kind of wondering what the general stereotypes of the chapters are, especially kappa alpha theta because my mom was one. If anyone would like to share their thoughts on any of the sororities or if you just have any advice on greek life at UK it would be greatly appreciated! And if you don't want to post it publicly feel free to send me a pm.

They're all awesome, wonderful and strong sisterhoods. That is all you need to know. We don't do stereotypes here. Don't focus just on Theta alone because you are a legacy. Keep in mind that the Theta policy is that legacies are given special consideration and in no way guaranteed a bid.

Yeah, I understand that being a legacy doesn't guarantee anyone a bid. I just feel most strongly for theta because of my mom. But thank you.

Are you even in college yet? UK formal recruitment is over for this school year. Learn about all the wonderful things the other chapters do at UK, you may find yourself interested or curious about what they offer.

You will form your own opinions based on your rush experience. Don't worry about what other people say or what stereotypes there are. Keep your grades up (don't let senioritis affect your GPA), get your recs in order next spring/early summer (for all chapters if possible), have fun shopping for your white dress for Bid Day and your other recruitment outfits, and don't stress about KY greek life until next year. Don't have the attitude of "I know I'm supposed to have an open mind, but...." REALLY keep an open mind and heart.

You can also do your own research and look at chapter websites. Also note that Phi Mu is coming on this year and thus you will have one more sorority to go to next year. As others have responded, it would behoove you not to put all of your eggs in one basket, look at/give all chapters a chance, and get letters of recommendation for every chapter on campus. Keep your grades up (over 3.0). Not having grades will get you released faster than anything else and being a legacy wont save you if you dont have grades.

Another idea is to read through the Kentucky Kernel online, UK's student newspaper. They almost always have articles about large greek events when they occur.

I would be happy to be accepted into any sorority. I'm not saying I only want theta. I know my opinion of theta could easily change after the first day of rush. But thank you for the advice!

Don't get us wrong, HeyJackson, I love seeing legacies accepting a bid form us on Bid Day. BUT, all legacies to any organization should openly consider all possibilities.
