Advice for rushing a MAC school?
I'm an incoming freshman at a MAC school. Is there any advice you can give me? I know rush at SEC schools is extremely competitive and I'm nervous to find out how it is at my school! Any little bit helps! (:

^^^^Hi. As you can tell by my username, I'm a MAC school alumna. Miami is probably the MOST competitive in the MAC. Outside of MU, the rest are generally not super competitive (I'm sure someone will chime in if I'm wrong.)
I will say though, that recruitment numbers are up at most of the schools in the MAC, so there are increased numbers of PNMs.
All of the general advice posted in the stickies (what NOT to do or say and General Advice) definitely applies though. I'd suggest reading as much as you can (and searching for recruitment stories that may be from your school.)
Good luck to you.

You are correct. Recruitment is not overly competitive at the other MAC schools, at least in Ohio. I am not very familiar with those in Michigan (AGDee would know), Indiana and Illinois, but I'm sure Dee would concur with the Ohio schools. Not knowing if you have Fall or Winter/Spring recruitment, you will need a different strategy.
If it is Winter/Spring, get involved, keep your grades up and get to know, in a good way, as many actives as possible. Watch your partying, the way you behave at parties and don't talk people or groups down. And most of all, KEEP YOUR GRADES UP. If it's Fall, well, you just don't have much time to prepare but it doesn't mean you can't screw things up.
Recs are not THAT important, even at Miami. It helps, but it isn't a deal-breaker. Regardless of where you go, keep an open mind. You can find a home on all of the campuses if you maximize your options unless you become a grade-risk or a liability risk.
Good luck.

I have nothing to add to this as Violet and Benzgirl covered it pretty well, but it's nice to see a non-SEC thread, especially when it's about the MAC!
And go Zips.

katie, please let us know how your recruitment at your MAC school goes! I'm excited for you, esp if you're at OU!
I will concur with my Ohio counterparts - if you're going to one of the 6 in Ohio, Miami is most competitive, if you can even call it that.

I've got the people who thought of make-up beat... my first thought was "Why would the kinds of computers on campus matter for recruitment?"

Love seeing a MAC question as I graduated from a MAC school. I agree that it isn't super competitive (at least the ones I have knowledge of). Keep your grades up, be yourself and if it is delayed recruitment, get involved.
Good luck!!

I think we have a discrepancy here. Is this question about the Mid-Atlantic Conference or the Mid-American Conference? It seems the answers here are to both, but would not necessarily be accurate at both.

I was pretty sure we were talking Mid-American Conference, as in Midwestern schools like Miami, Ohio, Kent State, CMU, WMU, EMU, Ball State ect. I guess we'll have to wait for the OP to get back to us on that one.

From other posts the OP made, she is in Indiana, It;s the MAC we have been talking about.

This is about the Mid-American Conference! I'm sorry for the confusion. But this advice so far has been great! THANK YOU! And if you can, keep it coming!(:
