Sticky rushing situation...should I try to make contact?
So currently I'm rushing and have been to 5 houses and have gotten a bid from one of them. There is this one house that I really want to rush since I know several people that have been in the house recently (graduated several years ago) and it seems like the one with exactly what I'm looking for (top academics, people in my prospective major, pretty social, good reputation) but I haven't heard anything from them. I went to the house during the university's greek orientation day with some friends and had a basic tour and chatted with the rush chairs (one of which went to my high school). Since then, the friends I was there with have gone to some rush events and signed early. Whenever I brought up that I wanted to rush the house they hinted, that they weren't comfortable just inviting someone since they're new and kind of just dropped the subject. I gave it some time (1.5 months) and I sent the rush chair a message on fb last week seeing if I could come out sometime but he still hasn't responded to me.
Should try to contact them again? If so, how? Continue to wait? Or should I take it as I'm being ignored?
Sidenote: I'm not "best friends" with these guys or anything. I knew of, and talked to the rush chair maybe once during high school and the others are basic friends that I would chat up in class and go to lunch with, nothing major.

sounds to me that they are not interested in you, or they would have responded to some of your overtures. those new pledges that you know may know that the fraternity does not think you would be a good fit, otherwise it seems that they would have invited you over and would not have dropped the subject.
why not give any of the 5 houses you have visited(or the one who has offered you a bid) a chance? or is it a case of "i would never join a club that wanted me as a member"?

No its not that, I've kept an open mind but the houses I've been to don't match all of the things I want ( like the social ones don't do to well academically or vice-versa)

Ok- I understand that you are wanting a group that will match everything on your list (good rep, social, top academics, people in your major).
Every chapter is a mix. The ones that are very social want the guys who do well academically; it will get them off of academic probation. The ones that don't have people with your major want people with your major; it will get them an "insider" or connection with other pnms in your major. (I was the only Poli Sci major when I joined my chapter. Guess what? I brought 4 other Poli Sci majors in the next year.)
Be a bit more open to the other chapters. Do you absolutely hate their members? Then that's the reason not to join. Don't write them off because they don't have everything on your list.

You have to accept that the GLO often knows better than you do if you would be a good fit. I know that sounds bogus, but it's true. They are the ones who know the members' personalities and other inner politics that doesn't really get talked about during rush.
Did/do you have a good relationship with the rush chair that you went to high school with?

I agree with this. Keep your options and your mind open. You have a few weeks left before school, things may change. Best of luck to you.
