Sigma Chi specifically says "old gold" for our blue and gold. I have seen all different shades of blue, including light, royal, and navy.

I have to admit I always chuckle when I see Beta Theta Pi's colors described as "delicate shades of pink and blue".

Can we go on a tangent about crests?

Real ASA crest:

As you can see, there are 4 little hickydoos (I don't know what else to call them) at the top of the crest and under the Phoenix. As AF mentioned, the number 4 is special to us, so it fits.

Lazy ass commercially produced crest:

Not only does it have 6 hickydoos instead of 4, it has an eagle instead of a phoenix on the crest. An eagle with its butt on fire does not a phoenix make.

I can honestly say that I've never heard of this before! This obviously skipped right over my chapter and Theta Beta. How cute!

Another quirky thing...unlike other GLOs, our badge, the letters superimposed cannot be placed on ANYTHING except our badge and membership certificate. Not on our houses, sweatshirts, memorabilia from convention, etc. Nothing.

When using anything sailboat to represent Sigma, the sails of the boats should always be moving ever forward.

Ex: the "sails" in our logo:

Also, this seems like a no-brainer, but our badge is to be pinned so that the triangle is straight up and down. Your indented triangle should NOT be leaning and rocking with it. Or doing the gangsta lean.

We were told that "mode" is the same color with a lighter tonal value of any other color. I have no idea if that is true or not! LOL So blue and lighter version of the same hue would be blue and mode. :-P

It's called a wreath or sometimes tortilly.

I love our red, buff, and green. I really like the way the colors look together, as they do on the old handlettered charters. The red, yellow, and green combo is also pretty, but IMHO it looks so brassy compared to the true colors.

Speaking of which--I have gone to various campus celebrations, etc., and some Pi Phi chapters are using pink and light blue balloons. It's not that hard to find dark red balloons anymore! Pink and light blue are what the DGs (and the Betas, I guess) should be using!

That's how I feel about it...it's cutesy, but not dignified.

So hard, but I've gotten it down to a science. It boggles my mind that some badges aren't supposed to be "straight."

One of my pet peeves is when printed depictions of our badge have a non-gold center. The chi is underneath the delta, why wouldn't you show it through the hole?

eg.

I'm just saying.

I also get irritated when people refer to us in writing as EK. Sigma and Epsilon are two totally different letters.
Royal blue and gold gets us items made in sky blue and orange, navy and yellow (or beige)... its a hot mess. And my graduate chapter has an Eta and Sigma in its name. H gets replaced w/ E, and Sigma gets replaced with... E again... its a mess too.

We also have to have our royal blue printed a specific way or it shows up at purple.

While that makes sense, it just means Tri Sigma is always sailing east. LOL.

On a related note: it would be obvious that our poodle should be in a neutral (black/white/tan) color but ideally in royal blue/gold. 99% of poodle ANYTHING you'll find is pink or sky blue. Which makes it that much more special when i DO find a neutral or royal blue/gold poodle.
