WOndering reasons for starting a new chapter

Ok so I am alumni at a certain University but still work there as a staff member and a new sorority is comnig onto campus-Delta Zeta. I am very excited for them to be coming here because I think our greek system needs to grow but...I am wondering about the girls who are behind it. I am really good friends with some of the girls who have gotten involved but am i weird for being annoyed at the reasons they seem to be wanting to start it with. One of the two girls who was the leader of the whole thing went through rush and didnt get picked up by anyone but her roommate did and of course problems started and all of a sudden she started talking about how fake all the sororities here are and how she would never want to be part of them etc. The other girl even now talks about other chapters and how she doesn't like them and how she hates certain fraternities etc. SHe the other day even said she made fun of her frosh roommate for going Phi Mu because of its colors! and they have made comments about only wanting "cute girls" during rush. Am I being a little too sensitive about this or am I right ot be concerned about the reason they wanted this? I feel as if no matter what chapter you are in you should support other peoples organizations and love the fact that you are Greek in general. I am jist interested to hear what others have to say about this.

Could it be that a young lady of 18 or 19 had a slightly immature reaction to rejection? We can't all be perfect ladies and gents at that young age. Imagine what you would have felt like and what you might have said if you hadn't been picked up going through rush.

Perhaps she always knew deep down that she wanted to experience being in a sorority? If she has joined a new colony I think she's shown more initiative and love of greek life than someone that rushed and got picked up and from there was told basically what they should do from that point on.

Think very carefully about this individual and maybe forgive someone for saying a few stupid things?

Kate -

Her rejection in rush by the existing sororities might have been the catalyst to try to bring another group to campus, but believe me, it will not carry her through. Starting a new group is a LOT of hard work and not something that can succeed if all you have in your heart is bitterness!

If she really believes in DZ and wants to be part of it, she won't have an un-Panhellenic attitude for long (and even the one she has might have just been in the heat of the moment). It takes the cooperation of all groups on a campus to help a colony succeed - if she learns that lesson it will be worth it.

Kate,
I think that I'm with Kevin on this one. Seriously, it's easy for those of us lucky to have been chosen during recruitment or open bid to expect others to have a charitable attitude toward other GLOs. We were the chosen ones.
My advice is to not say anything to the DZ Nationals at this point. See how things go for a while. I'm sure that NO's that colonize are on the look out for bitter or upset folks who were not extended a bid but the existing orgs on their campus. I imagine that many groups were kinda started on the same ground.
And who knows? Maybe DZ having faith in this girl enough to come to campus will change her outlook on other organizations.

Thumbs up

Kate, while most of the young people do not realize that they get the hots for a certain Organization, remebrer one thing KTSNAKE is a Kid From a different Fraternity than I am from, but got somethig from a member of another Fraternity than his, and he paid to have it sent copied to me at his expense!

Now does that give you an idea what Greek Dom is and can be all about!

As you can see we on the GC Site are more than willing to work with each other and do.

I will sometimes give a bad mouth to fellow GCers in a jest and they know it, I hope!

Many times it is tuff for the young adults at the school to realize what we talk about, and help each other on this site do and pass along!

I could give a list of people that I have talked to on the phone whom are not members of my Fraternity but never the less love and respect them any less!

NINA,KEVIN,Bandon, Tonya,Eric, ETC! That should tell ya something! None of these are LXA but from Different Groups

They that Complain only hurt themselves!

You in the position you are in can really help and I hope you do!

We as Greeks need all of the help we can get from our Backers!

Thank you for that!
