Good luck to your cousin. It will be interesting to see how recruitment goes this year at TheOSU since they lifted chapter total.

[QUOTE=BuckeyeTriDelta;2016218]WAIT...say waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. Did they raise total or just nix a chapter total all together... [QUOTE]

As far as I've heard it, they didnt get rid of chapter total, they just changed how quota for Formal Recruitment worked as of last year. Chapters could COB in fall quarter up to 100 (which used to be the set total) and then still take quota in formal recruitment. Quota used to be a somewhat arbitrary 25 women, but has now changed to what I think is a "true quota" system- the number of women attending preference parties divided by the number of houses, which is 14? (Correct me if i'm wrong on my terminology, the system was different back when I was a Rho Gamma and had to explain it all!) I believe quota for last year was 23, so after formal recruitment it left some houses with 123 girls and some houses with 60-70 girls, which never seemed fair or good to the system to me. The houses that did not pass 100 with the addition of their formal recruitment pledge classes could then COB in winter and spring, but only up to that 100-women mark.

Unless they've changed it again...

If I understand what DD has tried to explain to me, now (since last year, I believe) you can have up to 100 girls BEFORE you start formal recruitment in January, at the beginning of Winter quarter (OSU uses the quarter system currently, but will change over to semesters as of Fall 2012.) It used to be that 100 was the total number of girls you could have AFTER formal recruitment, regardless of quota. That meant that a few chapters did not meet quota because they butted up against that 100 girl limit before they met quota. So maximum you can have now is 100 + quota. I don't think that sororities can go over quota though, regardless of their numbers beforehand, but I am a bit foggy on this. I don't believe that anyone has hit 100 before formal yet, but some are pretty close to it.

Fall informal recruitment (for 2nd years and up only) has become a much bigger deal as sororities have been under 100 due to graduation, transfers, etc. since the new numbers went into effect. Even though it is informal, it is still somewhat structured. All sororities participate in Fall informal, whereas before the change in numbers, not all did, because the Fall girls counted towards that 100 girl limit. If they were a larger sorority, they maybe took a few girls, if any. Some sororities have had pretty big Fall pledge classes last year and this past Fall, like 12-16, which may not seem big to an SEC school, but with formal quota in the 23-27 range, it is significant.

Those sororities who are still under total after January formal recruitment can go through Spring informal recruitment, held at the beginning of Spring quarter in March and COB.

I think.

Well, of COURSE fingers crossed that the legacy pledges her mother's chapter! But if her friends don't . . . a crescent moon will be rising!

I can live with that! This daughter's twin is holding out for ADPi at JMU, and heaven only knows where youngest daughter will go! I promised each of them their pick from my pins, should they go ADPi - with the stipulation that it's probably the last reason one should select one sorority over another.

My cousin is now a proud new member of Delta Delta Delta! So happy for her

And as an update on the discussion of OSU's recruitment in general, quota this year was 32, and 12 of the 14 chapters met or exceeded quota (including my lovely AOII's!). The largest chapters are now at 125 women and size ranges from ~85 to 125.
