100 Books

I stole this from Facebook. I'd love to see what GCers have read! I must admit - a large number of the books I have read were required reading. Had I not had such a literature-heavy background, my list wouldn't be nearly so bold. Have fun!

ETA: Thanks, MC, for providing us a clean list. If anyone wants to add an asterisk, I say go for it.

Have you read more than 6 of these books? The BBC believes most people will have read only 6 of the 100 books listed here. Instructions: Bold those books you've read in their entirety, italicize the ones you started but didn't finish or read an excerpt.

ok... so ALL of you people need to read The Kite Runner
It is an awesome book. It's "sequel" (because I can't think of the right word) A Thousand Splendid Suns is even better.
Add it to your holiday lists!

There is a lot on the list I have on my "to read" list. There's also a lot that I want to own copies of.

Ditto on that, IL.
I think some are publicly available online. I may need to look into that if I can handle reading off of a screen

Can I state for the record that there is no novel called The Chronicles of Narnia?

You're right - there's not a single novel with this title. However, there's not a single novel with the title Harry Potter series, either.

I assumed when I first read the list that Chronicles encompasses all the novels in the series. That's also why I figured The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe was listed separately, since that's probably the most common of the lot, and it's probably common for people to have read only that one.

And, DSTRen, I agree that this list is a strange assortment. I saw it on a friend's Facebook page and simply copied/pasted here.

I am comforted to see that no one has read The Confederacy of Dunces. It has received such acclaim that I thought I was crazy for not being able to bring myself to finish it (on two separate occasions, to boot). For those of you who are using this list as a guide, I'd suggest you avoid that one.

Neither is there a novel called The Lord of the Rings I really do question whoever compiled this list. It's bizarre.

Although at least for that one, Tolkien conceived of it as one book and wanted it to be published as one book, not three. It was his publisher that decided otherwise.

And I agree on the strangeness of the list.
