Do ANY schools offer summer recruitment?

Hello GC Community,

I was wondering if any schools offer recruitment during the summer months. I would like to rush over the summer, if possible.

Not sure which USC you go to, but they both have formal recruitment in August. I assume by "summer months" you actually mean "summer term", in which case, no, there is no summer recruitment.

Even if chapters have summer recruitment events (which may or may not be ok with the Campus Panhellenic), they can't extend bids, and you don't have a bid until you have a bid, no matter what they promise you.

But yeah, why would you want to go through recruitment in the summer when only a small fraction of the chapter is there, and probably not occupying the house?

I go to University of Southern California. Rush is just TOO competitive here. I know lots of girls who rush at another school and then transfer into the chapter at USC. It's completely legal as long as they're enrolled at the school where they rush and follow that school's PHC rules. I was thinking about doing it over the summer - but I guess I won't!

I've never heard of a school that offers bids over the summer. Even if a chapter could, I have no doubt that they wouldn't initiate you until the fall semester. There simply isn't anyone on campus for you to have a new member period.

Besides, even if that plan were POSSIBLE, don't think that the women wouldn't realize your intentions and be insulted that you'd be joining their chapter just to transfer to USC. Additionally, a chapter doesn't have to accept transfer affiliates. You must be voted in. Depending on the number of transfers seeking affiliation, a chapter may be selective as to who affiliates, and a chapter probably wouldn't appreciate someone trying to sneak in through the back door.

Women do get bids at USC. You might want to reflect upon what made the first time (assuming there was one) unsuccessful and improve next time, should you try again. You also must reflect upon whether you are interested in being Greek, or just the prestige of certain chapters.

Nope. There is no such thing as summer recruitment (per NPC guidelines). It's either fall or spring. In the case of USC, it is fall.

It is competitive, but the majority of women who maximize their options at USC actually do get bids.

As for rushing at another school and transfering into USC, that doesn't always work out. The USC chapters are large, and therefore selective about taking on transfer affiliates from other schools. Not everyone who wants to affiliate gets to.

Whoever told you that summer recruitment existed is incorrect.

Since you are not a member of an NPC sorority, please don't claim to be an expert of what's considered "legal".

I try to always be nice on GC, but this is so phenomenally stupid I can't even fathom it. Why would anyone think this was a plausible option? Why would any chapter pledge you if you have no intention of being an active member? Why would the USC chapter just blindly accept you because you pledged at worst Kappa chapter ever (sorry Kappa... just picked one for an example) just so you could affiliate? And isn't there 1 chapter at USC that is struggling numbers-wise? Why would a person go through all that crap when there's a perfectly good chapter they MIGHT be invited to join?

Is the OP planning to transfer to the other school and then back to USC? That seems like an awful lot of trouble to go through. If she means taking summer-session classes at the other school, you couldn't rush even if such a thing existed, because you need to be a full-time student to be eligible to rush.

If it were me, I wouldn't be disrupting my college career just to get into a sorority and possibly transferring to a different chapter.

As many people have said, chapters do not have to accept a transfer affiliate. And it would be offensive to me if a girl pledged at my chapter with no intention of staying there because it is "easier" to get in that way than going through at UA for example. I'm sure some people do this, yes, but it doesn't mean it always works nor does it mean it's always easy.

Go through recruitment and be willing to accept a bid to any sorority unless you have a damn good reason not to. Then your chances of being Greek are good. Otherwise do yourself a favor and find a club on campus to get involved in instead of transferring back and forth.

I would guess, since USC's recruitment is over, that she went, it didn't work out for her, and she's trying to find a way to "sneak" in. It ain't gonna happen. Think of the amount of money it would cost to pull this off anyway.

The one nugget I'll throw is they're going to have to figure something out so that a chapter or two can expand onto the USC campus. And maybe that will happen while she's a student. But then, with how colonizations have gone this year, that may STILL not pan out for her. Just ask the 175 girls who wanted to be an FSU Alpha Phi but didn't make the cut.

To the OP I say, keep your grades up, get super involved on campus, always look your best and be uber friendly, and maybe it will work out for you next year. But do not try to be tricky to get in to a USC sorority chapter.

Oh. My. God.

I know I'm beating a dead horse here, but people join specific sororities because of the people that they meet. Or, at least they should. They join because they click with the members, they want to be part of their sisterhood, etc. Why would you want to join a group of girls and then transfer, with no guarantee of getting into the new chapter? And even if you got in, no guarantee that you would click with the new chapter at all?
