I would like to see either England or France win. Don't know how feasible that will be.

I would LOVE to see a third-world country like Cameroon or Senegal win it all!!! That would be so cool- not only for that country, but for all of Africa. I mean, when Senegal beat France...WOW!!! Senegal went CRAZY!!!

HIPC Teams ('3rd World is archaic') could not win because they don't understand what it takes to endure game after game at this level as they're only in recent years making it into the Cup. They can win a game here and there by putting everything they have on the line, and since they're seen as a push-over...they give a surprise attack and maybe even win. Now that it's known they can win, the truly talented teams will play them straight up and beat them. Essentially Cameroon is the best team to look at because they've been around the longest of these teams I think. HPIC teams need to start playing more straight up tactically rather than hoping for the one run out goal that puts the game over.

I mean, I'd like to see an HIPC team win as well, but only if they showed me they were more talented...I don't want to see the scrubbishness of some of them I've seen so far go home with the Cup.

Thanks for the breakdown and the correct terminology! I am only a casual fan...I'd much rather watch US football and baseball than World Cup Soccer, so my rooting interest is nil. I just personally would like a non-traditional power to take it to make the series more exciting to me. But at least now I know not to use the term "third world"!

Didn't mean to sound rude...my poly sci professor just jumped down my throat one day for referring to a country as third world....thought I might save you or anyone else later embarassment

I dont see why you think a third world country shouldnt win. These are the countries that truly live for the game and play it on the less than ideal places just so they can play the game. Further more it is also these third world countries that have their players recruited by European leagues. So maybe you should think about that before you go rooting for a country that should win only because they have a better ability to finance their team. They are playing for the money others play for the game.

Oh Really?

Does Experience count for anything?
Maturity?

HIPC teams in a tournament more rigorous than anything they have ever experienced are not for many years going to be able to withstand the soccer power-houses (who evidently have no true desire of sport, only money ) who have been around for a while and have learned how to handle themselves in the Cup. There is a discipline. Trust me, I've had friends/coaches on a few national teams, and we've discussed this....

Nevertheless, have you seen these teams (who are the only ones who play for the love of the game), and their style (or general lack there-of)? Some of the teams can put a few balls together and run with it...but most are run-out teams...if that's what you want to see watch a track meet. I'd preferrably see a game of connect-the-dots passing that builds games up, like Germany '90 or team Italy '94....now that's sport (not money).

You're talking about lost motives and what-have-you, but is talent exclusive to players without pay?
