I sooo agree with this one!!
Also, I don't think I really paid attention until the last few years. While I was growing up, when someone died, we said they "passed away". Now they say " passed". I ALWAYS think "passed what!"

Just remembered another one:
To be truthfully honest,...
As opposed to deceivingly honest?

"The reason is because..."
Redundant! You also said the same thing twice.

People don't pass. That sounds like they walked by something. They died. Just spit it out.

I am one of those annoying people who has about a gazillion of these annoyances.
1-nucular. We don't need to get into the fact that the person in charge of pressing the button to START a nuclear war should be able to correctly pronounce it. But there you go.
2-supposebly. I'm becoming friends with a woman here in Dubai (from Texas and Georgia - I won't incriminate which Georgia school is guilty of not teaching all of its students English) who I thought was smart but who says this. I'm trying to decide if I really need a friend who says supposebly.
3-persons. It is not 5 persons, it is 5 people in virtually every case. If you are a lawyer writing a contract this MAY be acceptable. But even then I bet there's a better way for you to word it.
4-Same with myself. Mary, Sue and myself were not going anywhere or doing anything. This is another phrase that I think people use because it SOUNDS more official. It's not.
5-I have never seen people use apart when they mean a part prior to joining this website. How was THIS not pointed out to you as a 3rd grader? I bite my tongue (typing fingers?) EVERY SINGLE TIME to keep myself from saying, hey, if you want to be apart of the Greek system, then DON'T sign up for recruitment!
As a humorous aside, my British friends are completely hating a new trend in their lexicon - init. As in isn't it. A contraction really doesn't need to be re-contracted.

Your British friends haven't been paying attention to the dialects in their country if they think "init" for "isn't it" is new.

Not sure if this one has been posted yet:
1) I hate when people say 'quote on quote' when they really mean 'quote-unquote'
2) I hate when people write either Q-O-Q or Q-U. Do they not realize that there are quotation marks on a keyboard??

I hate when people say or type "anyways" - If you think about it, you wouldn't say anyones, or anythings. Why would you say anyways? Any seems to be fairly singular in nature to me.
Anyway, I greatly prefer anyway.

Robust. We seem to want everything to be robust around here. Overkill. Same with engage/engagement. We want to "engage" alumni. No, we just want to get their butts back here and have them give money.

No, someone did not "sure up" their argument. They "shored up" their argument. I realize you are not from a seaside town but get it right for crying out loud or don't try to be witty with your phrasing.

Agreed! I can't stand those terms, either!
