Miss Homecooking?
I'm sure many people miss a good homecooked meal. What do you do when you need your fix of mama's chicken, fried or Coq Au Vin? Eat out, or try and cook yourself? Where would you go?
My friends and I go to a place called Theresa's for a hot, homestyle breakfast: hash, eggs, waffles, fritters (pancakes,) biscuits, and gravy...brown and sausage...mmm....GRITS....oh my.

I saw the title, and immediately thought this thread was about a Miss Homecooking, and I thought there are some really silly pageants out there, but this takes the cake......

When I was in college, we used to go to a place called HamFam (Hamilton Family diner) for good homecooking.

while i think i am a pretty good cook..
mine does not compare to my grandmother's.. when i go home i just have to go and get my fix..
but its nice bc we also have a place close by called the homeplace.. (there is the same type of place close to home called tanglewood ordinaries)
they have tons of homecooked food and its family style dining.. all you can eat for a set price.. its so great..

I go to this place called City Cafe right across the river. It opens at the crack of dawn (before then really) and it stays open til about 3. You can eat amazing amounts of food for less than 5 bucks. I once got a veggie plate w/ 5 veggies and tea for around $4. And it's soooo good. Thursday is my usual day 'cause they have chicken and dressing. Can't wait til tomorrow!

I'd often miss home cooking... when I lived in the dorms, my boyfriend at the time, would take me to his parents' house for dinner, since I was out of state. Even when I lived in the house, I didn't like our food so I'd eat out a lot... I can't cook so I never tried.

So let me guess..... the Miss Homecooking pageant would involve a bake-off instead of a talent contest, and an apron competition instead of a swimsuit competition?
When I went to college, I missed my mother's cooking... so I learned to cook. (Actually, this was partly fueled by necessity: Aramark did the catering at my school - nuff said.)

It's funny, but I don't miss my mom's cooking AT ALL. She makes a lot of German inspired stuff, which involves a lot of meat (which I don't eat) and lacks flavor. I think that Mr. valkyrie and I make much, much better food, better even than most restaurants here.

My mom is from India and she makes the BEST food in the entire world. Seriously she can cook any Indian dish known to man and they all taste fabulous.
My dad is an amazing cook as well but he cooks more gourmet type stuff. My parents are somewhat ritzy so the food we eat at home is always either Indian or something else random like French or Mediterranean, etc. There's never anything like casseroles or anything made in my house.
They're both fab cooks though and I miss it sooooooooo much when I am at school. But I come home once in the summer, once in November, and then for winter break and I make sure to eat until I am about to explode.
