Advice? Loophole?

In case someone can help me here (I'm going to repost this at the appropriate thread)....

I went to a relatively small school for my first 3 semesters of college. I joined an NPC sorority my fall semester and loved every single second of it, until the new members (including myself), found out the chapter was in pretty deep trouble for hazing. We found out about this right before initiation because we had a representative come talk to all of us. We found it funny that so many consultants had come to visit our chapter, but didn't know any better. My class did not get hazed at all, but as I continued my time there the entire sorority fell apart. Eventually we had our charter suspended. This happened at the end of my third semester (fall). During winter break my grandmother fell very ill and I decided to move home. In this time the national council for my sorority decided that every member of my chapter go through the judiciary process. They were going to weed out the good and the bad to try and fix our problems. I had enrolled in another school over break, one much closer to home, that did not have my sorority, let alone sororities at all. I had talked to my regional advisor about becoming an alumni, but she informed me that I had to go through the judiciary process to do so. This meant flying back to school (a 3 hour flight, 24 hour drive), as they would not accommodate a meeting via telephone. Since I had class and didn't really have the money to just spur of the moment make the trip, I did not go through the judiciary process and therefore was dismissed from my sorority.

My question is, and I believe I already know the answer, but I'm wondering if anyone is aware of a loophole - is it possible for me to go through recruitment at another school and join another NPC sorority? I loved the sorority experience, or at least the part of mine that was not dictated by my national council/the petty arguments/rifts between sisters, but I feel as though I was outed. I want more, I feel as though I deserve more, I'm a good sister, and I love everything about it.

Thanks in advance for any help/advice.

BTW - I will not be rushing at Delaware for anyone who noticed my username. I'm just from the wonderful first state

No. You cannot go through recruitment again. You could however probably become an alumna of your sorority if you got a hold of your national HQ and discussed the matter with them.

THERE ARE NO LOOPHOLES.

You may not join another sorority.

There are no loopholes.

No, there is no one higher-up whom you can discuss this with to help you find a loophole. There isn't one.

No, there are no exceptions.

No, we're not making this up.

Just covering all the potential responses. We get this question a lot.

The Panhellenic Compact precludes your ever becoming a member of another NPC sorority, if you were initiated into an NPC member sorority.

NPHC members will advise you on their regulations.

Advice, since you asked: petition your National/International HQ regarding the circumstances and request, respectfully, that you be considered for status as a member in good standing.

Typically, when a charter is suspended or withdrawn, there are provisions made for the current active members.

That's all I can say, based on the information you provided.

Good luck to you and I hope you are successful; membership really is for a lifetime and alumnae chapters are lots of fun!

I knew what this was before I even opened the thread.

That being said, I'm a little confused. Did you leave school with all your fees paid? I don't know why you would have been "dismissed" as in most cases like yours, a member would automatically become an alumna. If the judiciary process took place in the spring, you weren't an active chapter member there when it happened and therefore your alum status should not have hinged on it. I think your regional person dropped a ball here (i.e. I don't think they reported your leaving school properly) and is trying to cover her ass.

Contact your national HQ ASAP, explain what happened and when (writing up a timeline and emailing it would be helpful) and hopefully it'll work out.

p.s. I always think of Delaware as the "no tax on records/tapes/CDs" state and think that's what should be on their license plates instead.

Instead of looking for loopholes, why not look for exceptions?

In your case, it'd be speaking to nationals to reverse your dismissal.

You need to get in contact with a representative of your national/international organization. Every one is different, and though it sounds fishy to me, it might just be the way things are done with that particular organization. But you need to find out...I would get in contact with a friend that you know is still active and have them forward you a contact, like a regional coordinator (a different one than whoever was in charge of the judiciary process in you chapter...probably one in the area you are now in), and make an appointment. Then very carefully outline the circumstances. Right down everything that happened if you need to, and be sure not to leave anything out, good or bad.
