High School Class Reunions
My 10 year reunion is next month, and I've been meaning to ask y'all about this. How many of you have gone to your class reunions? Did you like it? What did you do? Will you go to your next one? What did you do (if anything) to prepare for it? Had you kept in touch with a lot of friends from high school over the years? Did you rekindle any friendships that had fallen off? Was it a time of reflection for you? Tell us your story!!

Re: High School Class Reunions
I went to my 10 year reunion last year. I must admit, to my surprise, that I had a great time! I am from a pretty small, predominately white town and really hadn't seen a lot of my classmates. My reunion was nothing like some of the things you see on TV. You know like the episode of Martin...Well, most who showed up had regular lives...jobs, children, homes. No millionaires, doctors, etc. But then, we really didn't talk much about careers. Mostly about family. It was a great time had by all.
It was a two day very casual event. There was something scheduled the Friday and Saturday. Of course, I had to jump cute, so I spent the morning in the salon and just threw on some slacks and that was it.
I hope you enjoy your reunion as much as I enjoyed mine! It would definately be worth going...

I went to my 10 year as well almost 2 years ago. I was on the planning committee so it was cool to hook up with old friends that I hadn’t seen. I only kept in contact with one person since graduation so it was a miracle (and classmate.com) that they found me to help plan. You know a sista was on several diets and working out like a robot... and made it to my desired weight. Hair was done… outfit was tight… hubby was looking cute. And to be honest, although we won the cutest couple for the night.. and yeah, we had superlatives… everyone had a lot of fun. I’ve remained in contact with several people and we’re looking forward to the next one... for year 15 soon. In terms of reflecting, I did that mostly afterwards. I had placed so much emphasis on “looking good” that I almost missed what was most important. I came a long way since high school and was (and still am) blessed.

I was one of the two chairpersons for my high school reunion and it was sooooo much fun. (alot of hard work to organize and track down people but still fun).
To prepare for the reunion we had fundraiser starting the year prior to the reunion to cut down on expenses. Some of the events we hosted were a mix and mingle,a block party(this was held outside of a club and the streets were blocked off...we got a percentage of the drinks), a pajama jammy jam, comedy club night, and an ole school skating party. Our class was lucky because one of our classmates owns a banquet hall, and two clubs so he hooked us up as far as letting us get so much off the ticket sales and drinks/food. Plus he didn't charge us his usually rate for renting his clubs.
The weekend of our reunion we had an ice breaker at Gameworks. This is an adult arcade. We had a hospitality room reserved for our class so they could eat and drink and socialize at their convience. It was so much fun running around playing games with your old buddies. It felt like we were in highschool again.
The next day was the Black and Gold Affair.(This was the dinner/dance and everyone was to wear our school colors). It was really nice and classy. We had the banquet hall tastefully decorated in black and gold. The gala included all you can eat buffet,an open bar, entertainment, dancing and we took a class photo.
The next day was the picnic at our favorite hang out park when we were in highschool. The committee had special made T-shirts in our school colors made w/a poem dedication to our class written on the back. So at the picnic everyone wore the T-shirts to represent. The picnic included a dj,all you can eat catered food, and games. We had such a ball during the fundraiser events and actual reunion weekend. It was good to see everyone and of course I took plenty of pictures. We had people from classes before and after us coming out and supporting and showing us love.I can't wait for the next one. Which by the way was plained for in 5 years instead of 10 because everyone had so much fun this time around. It was alot of work but well worth it.

No thanks
My 20-year reunion is coming up, but I have absolutely no desire to go because it would open up old wounds. 'Sides, I don't have a date.
My HS torment came about mainly because I participated in a voluntary integration program that took me to a school waaay outside my neighborhood. It was a difficult social environment, very hard on someone like me who was different -- namely, physical awkwardness and interests that didn't include partying and sexing at that time.

Not interested...
My 10 year reunion is next year and I really have no desire to go. I had a close circle of friends that I have kept in contact with over the years and I have no desire to see anyone else.
I know, I'm a party pooper... But really, outside my "click", I really didn't have clse relationships with anyone else. I'm not going to be fake and show up at the reunion.

I'm also from a small southern town in North Carolina and graduated from the only magnet HS the city. Needless to say i was excited about my ten year reunion. Like many small towns, there were a handfull of our people that served in leadership roles and I was fortunate to have been in that crowd. As a senior class officer, I co-chaired the reunion committee. There were two things that I left the reunion thinking:
1. Most of our folk did not attend. Our folk that were expected to do well after HS were in fact still in school. Many are now doctors, lawyers, counselors, etc. I was real pleased when people asked have i talked to so and so and I said she is still in medical school and could not make it.
2. I haved gained a few pounds and just knew everyone would comment. What I got was I can't belive you don't drive a Volvo. I looked like what the hell are you talking about. The perception of folk really made me realize how much I have chaged and become my own man. Oh, back to the weight thing - you can tell if you look good or bad by taking a close look at your classmates. Hell, I was one of the few brothers that still had hair. The others are now bald because their hair line is in the middle of their head and the weight, well - lets just say my waist size is smaller than my age and my chest is still tight.

It's cool that this topic was posted because my 5-year reunion is coming up in October.
Our 1-year reunion was cool. It gave us all a chance to connect after being separated to go to college. Most of us had been together at the school since 7th grade. That was 6 years. It felt nice to be back around familiar faces after being thrown into a new world called COLLEGE! It was also the last time that some of our classmates got to see a good friend who passed away shortly after the reunion.
I can't wait to see everyone that will show up at the reunion. I know what most of them are doing, but they don't know about what I have been up to. I have been on the low for a few years. I have made a pact with one of my girls to lose a few pounds in time for October. I am pumped about the reunion. I sort of miss our high school days. Maybe I can rekindle a few old flames....
