See, I'm at the point that I'd just as soon delete my account as take the time to deal with FB about it. Like I said, I log on once or twice a month (any messages worth reading are sent to my email, so I see those immediately). And the reason I don't log on any more often than that is that 90% of what I see is stuff I care nothing about -- including, I'm afraid, most people's statuses or what they like/are fans of.

I deleted all my pages except for the volunteer orgs that I am a part of and one of our philanthropies. It does suck, because that meant deleting my state rep, who is my friend's husband, but I'm job searching. I wish they would let me make those pages private.

My interests had previously been private and it told me to like all these fan pages for EVERYTHING on my page. If I didn't like them, it removed it from my interests. Fine for me.

I'm confused. My profile still looks like regular FB. But when I go to anyone else's FB page (like one of my friends), the interests are connected to Fan Pages and everything looks different/weird. Is it going to eventually start looking like that for everyone.

I also just happened to make a change to my privacy settings recently and realized that FB had just reset them. So my profile was completely public for at least a week and I had no idea. OMG.

This is a really good idea. I'm going to do this

ETA: So I just went to do this, and when you click edit for your interests, movies, and whatnot you can drag each item to the bottom of that category and a message comes up that says "Drag here to Hide". So hopefully they remain hidden to everyone else and not just to me.

ETA 2: Nevermind. Anyone can just click the "Show" button after you do this and see everything again. Just delete your fan pages.

If I don't do that, will it stay the way it is? It's fine that way. I was just wondering if it was an all-FB change that was coming up or something.

I just checked my privacy settings, and they're all the same.

I am on the "new" look, though, so my music/movies/interests have all been linked or deleted. Not too concerned about that, though.

This is what I did as well. Ha ha on you, Facebook.

Basically if you want to make a page for anything...DON'T make a page...make a group. That way people can join it and not worry about it showing up in their stuff.

Off to make quotations private...

ETA: Huh. I just went to privatize my quotations and they were already private. OMGWTFBBQ FACEBOOK IS READING MY MIND!! Time to put on my tinfoil hat.

How do I opt-out of viewing social plugins?

No data is shared about you when you see a social plugin on an external website. You can choose to use social plugins when you click the "Like" or "Recommend" button on a piece of content you want to share. These actions are publicly available information, similar to public comments or reviews you might write on a website. Only click the "Like" or "Recommend" buttons if you want to share your likes and recommendations publicly./help/?faq=17097

So, everyone- Facebook overstepping boundaries, or just another means of "connecting people?" Are you creeped out or curious as to what your friend thinks of that PeopleDotCom article?
What happened to my post???? Did someone delete it???

Don't know how legit this is, but it definitely makes sense for Zuckerberg. Especially considering facebook's origins...

Facebook, instant personalization, and security holes.

I guess I'm dumb, but what exactly is Yelp? I never use Pandora because they don't get me at all - I prefer last.com.

There is a privacy setting "Applications and Websites" that allows select partners to instantly personalize their features with my public information when I first arrive on their websites.

Unclick the check box and it should be removed if you don't want that info shared.

All my fan pages and everything else seem to be completely hidden - at least according to the "preview profile" feature - so apparently I have successfully set up my privacy settings the way I want them. Either this is not actually that hard to do (so why won't my mother stop asking me for instructions?), Facebook is lying to me with the preview feature (a real possibility!), or I somehow have crazy FB skills (???).

Doing some online reading, came across this and believe it's worth sharing:

Facebook emails from the founder were made public this week in which he laughed with a friend about “what dumb f*cks people were” to trust him with their information, offered the dirt on anyone he had to the friend; there's more... perhaps the cavalier attitude FB has about privacy had very early beginnings.
