I was in awe of Dubai. I miss last week's episode, so I'm so glad I got to see some of Dubai in today's episode. I would LOVE to go to that Atlantis Resort!
Mika was an annoying crybaby, but I get she was phobic - Canaan's way of dealing with her was ridiculously stupid - trying to manhandle her over to the slide is NOT going to make her go down any faster. She seemed to make more progress when he left her alone. I just think he wanted it done fast and didn't think that taking a bit of time and talking to her calmly and reassuring her might have worked faster than screaming, grabbing her and trying to force her into it. I think at that point there was a bit of "I'm not going to go down just to piss this asshole off." going on.
LOVE that the Globetrotters passed them. I love them, and I hated Canaan and Mika, so yay!

I can't even fathom having a phobia that intense. I'm not a fantastic swimmer, but that slide looked fun. That said, I like the Globetrotters so I'm happy that they are still in the race.

im HUGELY afraid of heights and wouldve freaked like Mika. i wouldve chucked it up for a chance at $1M, though it wouldve taken me a while. my stomach turns now thinging about it - i really HATE steep slides, staircases and rollercoasters.
i was TOO mad at the globetrotters for not figuring out the combination! and really shocked that so many teams decided to put together hookahs vs weigh out gold. then again, im just as good as calculations as i am with putting things together, so it may have depended on what i was feeling at the moment.
if he wouldve pushed her down that slide it wouldve been a WRAP!

I agree with what everyone said, but I will say that I'm deathly afraid of heights as well (even though I must have a window seat on a plane) and I would love to go on TAR, but I would need a partner who wouldn't mind doing the bungee/skydiving thing...cause it would take me a really long minute in order to psych myself enough to take that first step...I would do it, but it would be a while....

Well, I'm not quite sure what to say to ^^^^
I'm not Asian, and I could do the math. The globetrotter could read a watch, he was overly thinking it because of the date, and once he got brain lock, thinking one thing, he couldn't get past it.
I think the panic situation gets people flustered and they can't think straight, it was really easy for me sitting on my bed watching the show to say - hey, simple algebra, but if I was racing against time for a million dollars - I might freeze up.
BUT, I sure as heck would go down that slide lickety split!!

You're the one who didn't watch very well. It was 835. They showed that it was 835 for every single pair. He said, over and over, that one hand was on the 8, the other was on the 7 and he was trying to see the number in the date field but couldn't see it well enough. Then he tried every combination of 87_ and none of them worked. He was stuck on the concept of the numbers the hands were pointing to and not on the time that the watch said.

She's deathly afraid of heights and water - why the heck did she go on the Amazing Race??? There are always challenges that involve either/or/ or both! I'd be mad if I were Caanan, but it was his choice to go on the race with her.
Have to say, she sounded like a 4 year old up there (floaties??) - majorly bugged me!! I am so glad the Globetrotters made it through, I like them. It also really bugged me when Caanan called out the Globetrotter, saying he thought he was a decent human being - uhh, it's a race, and your girlfriend is sitting at the top of the slide refusing to go down. That's not his fault. Glad she only had 2 minutes, but it makes me wonder how long she was up there before they got there and the clock started!!!
|
Exactly - it also looked like the slide was over in about 3 seconds, so yeesh, what a baby. I remember TAR from one season ago, where they had to bungee jump (I think it was in Switzerland). Holy h*ll!!
The Globetrotters psyching her out through the negative talk ... well, that probably wasn't necessary as she had already talked herself out of doing it. I have to admit, I did experience a bit of "schaedenfreude" when they were talking to her, psyching her out and she was kvetching all the more.

I quite honestly would've done the same thing for $1M because her sudden bravado in taking the slide might have cost the guys a shot at a once in a lifetime opportunity. Caanan's calling Big Easy a piece of crap was ironic considering he just tried to force his girlfriend down a water slide she was petrified of. I think they'll come to a mutual decision to walk away because there's no way I'd be with a guy who tried to manhandle me down a waterslide. Frankly, if I were Caanan, I'd look at her everyday and remember that she cost me $1M.
Remember last season when the two sisters got stuck towards the end because the younger sister was afraid of water also? I remember being impressed that she ultimately sucked it up and faced her fears. Mika actually pi$$ed me off when she walked down the stairs instead of taking the slide. She just completely punked out on what thousands of people wish they had the opportunity to do. On the flip side: The Globetrotters weren't eliminated!
I love this show.

Where would you be if the heat was 110+ degrees? I wouldn't be posing for a camera either. I won't dignify the second part.

I was actually thinking that the Globetrotters talking trash to her like that would make her get pissed at them and go down the slide to spite them. That's probably how I would react. A sort of "f you, I'm doing this" reaction. But, that's the rebel in me I guess.
I have to admit, the second time I went into labor, I felt like Mika did at the top of that slide. The "Hell no, I'm not doing this again" thing kicked in, but I didn't have anyway out of it, so I survived it..lol.

I just can't believe that out of all the crazy stuff they've done on this show, it was a waterslide that finally made someone crack.
And add me to the list of people who would have heckled her like the Globetrotters (in fact, I probably would have been even more merciless, lol).

It really did amaze me that people couldn't figure out the gold challenge. Don't get me wrong.. actually doing the calculations would have been difficult for me without a calculator (I'm horrible at math!). But there were teams who didn't even know how to solve it. That's what was kind of sad about the whole thing.
The waterslide... I was frustrated myself when I saw that Mika wasn't going to go down. I love the Globetrotters, but I was still kind of rooting for her to suck it up and do it. I know for me, it would have been nothing to grab the bars and pull myself over the edge. But I likened the situation to something that I'm afraid of.. I know I'm deathly afraid of spiders. If someone just tried shoving one in my face and started yelling, "Just hold it!" I'd try my hardest to get away from it (while screaming and crying hysterically).
I truly think Canaan might have been able to get her to go down the slide if he actually helped her, told her he knew she could do it, and encouraged her. She actually sat down and looked like she was ready to do it a couple of times. But then he'd walk over and try to take her hands off of the bar and make her go down. And I think walking away was maybe one of the worst things he could have done. Backing off is one thing.. walking away and looking frustrated in the corner is another. It probably made her feel even more so that she was letting him down.

AST, if you are deathly afraid of spiders, I suggest strongly that you not go on either Survivor, I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here (if you're a celebrity ), or Fear Factor, because you are sure to either have to eat one, roll around in a tub of them, or be stuck in a room/tent with them! LOL
Just as Mika (and Canaan) would have been better off not going on TAR.

Ok, gamma's idiot comments aside, I had to finally get back to this thread, I am SO GLAD Canaan & the floatie girl had to go! I would have been really bummed to see the Globetrotters go, I find them endlessly entertaining!

Exactly! Even watching this last episode of Survivor, seeing one of the contestants huddled up next to a tree in the rain, I was actually nervous that a spider might crawl down the tree onto him.
And watching Russell grabbing for the hidden immunity idol inside that tree made me cringe. If that was me, I would have assumed there were spiders/bugs crawling all up inside of it. I'd be the one to take a big stick and start poking around in there, rather than reach in, with everyone probably watching (and knowing exactly what I'm doing). But I wouldn't care
