a very flowery recruitment! (retro-spring2009)

hiiiiii everyone!! i just made a new login because i've been waiting to tell my rush story but if i used my actual one it would be wayyyy too obvious what house i'm in cause of my signature and all that. since it is retro i dont really need to drag out the story, ill prob post at least one update a day (probably more if im bored) so this will be quick!

i go to a pretty big school in the northeast with 12 NPC sororities. we dont have rush for freshmen in the fall, so everyone has to rush in the spring. if you at any time have any guesses about what school i go to/what the code is/whatever you can just PM me and ill prob tell you if youre right

anyways, im going to name all the houses after different flowers:

rose
lily
tulip
daffodil
daisy
dandelion
sunflower
iris
violet
carnation
petunia
lilac

i need to go to class now but ill give my first update when i get back!! thanks for reading

round 1

at my school, recruitment is spread over two weekends in february and on the first friday we just have a wicked sick pep rally type thing. it really got me pumped to rushhh as we got to see all the sisters in their letters!

saturday morning, we had to meet our rho gammas in different classrooms around campus before walking all together to our first house. we were all given green tshirts to wear for first round so we didnt have to think about what to wearr thank god. i was kinda nervous going into my first house, but realllly excited!!

iris- the girls i talked to here all seemed adorable and really down to earth. i felt like i connected with all the girls i talked to (besides one who was a little awk but still really nice) and even though it was my first house and i hadnt gone to any of the others yet i knew i definitely wanted to come back here

dandelion- this house is typically jewish on my campus, and as a catholic girl i wasnt so sure if i would fit in here going into rush. however, the girls i talked to were great and i definitely wouldnt mind being asked back

daffodil- this house had such positive energy! this house is known to be one of the "top" ones at my school and i could see why- the girls were all super enthusiastic and were wearing the most adorable colored polos. i loveeed the girls i talked to in this house!!

violet- this is the other typically jewish house at my school, and even though i did like dandelion, i was not the biggest fan of violet. almost every single girl had dark hair and was from long island (nothing at all against long islanders) i just didnt feel like i fit in as well as i couldve

daisy- i love love looooved this house. the girls were all so outgoing and energetic and i was laughing pretty much the entire time. definitely a house i wanted to return to

sunflower- another house i loved! i was gonna have such a hard time making up my mind. my first rusher and i had a few mutual friends so we chatted about that for awhile and then got started on all sorts of crazy topics. even though it was only the first day, i knew i would be happy as a sunflower

tulip- eh. that word pretty much sums up my feelings about this house. the girls were alright but some seemed pretty strange and i feel like i had to initiate most of the conversation. not my favorite house for sure

carnation- i got to talk to a girl who went to my high school at this house, and she introduced me to her big and some of her sisters as "a good friend from high school" and even though this house has kind of a bitchy/selective stereotype i couldnt see it at all as every single girl i talked to was super nice

rose- this house doesnt have the best reputation on campus, but i couldnt see why as i had amazing conversations with the girls and they all seemed so sweet and genuine and truly friends with one another. even though my friends dont agree, i would really like to come back to this house

lilac- the girls in this house were so chill!! every girl i talked to was hilarious and i could definitely see myself fitting in. i already knew quite a few girls in this house, and they all came out of their way to say hi to me

lily- beautiful girls, beautiful house! def one of the prettiest houses i visited, and the girls were so cute and nice! i knew i wanted to return here

petunia- this house was known to be a struggling house on campus. the girls i talked to were all so awkward and as sweet as they seemed, i couldnt see myself being friends with any of them

rankings for round 1: (we had to cut 3)
1 sunflower
1 daisy
1 lilac
1 lily
1 iris
1 daffodil
1 carnation
1 dandelion
1 rose
2 tulip
3 violet
4 petunia

well, thats it for round 1, stay tuned for round 2!!

A comment here: I would advise you to hit the edit button a bit more. A house is not "typically Jewish". It would be "historically Jewish". The comment about Jewish girls, dark hair and Long Islanders is offensive. (I am not, nor have I from Long Island so I am not defensive about my home town.) I am however Jewish, as are my daughters--the ones with the long straight blond hair. Physically sterotyping a group of people (I noticed that you did not say "ABC which is typically Episcopalian has girls who have long curly blond hair") isn't the image that you want to present--to anyone.

Recruitment is a process where both sides (PNM and sisters) should be comfortable (a quote from my era). I know that you found your group and comfort zone. I am happy for you. I think that you might want to learn to edit, at least in public.

And... as a dark-haired Jew who grew up on Long Island, I'm not offended.

(sorry I hit the reply button too quickly)

Thank you for you apology. No ifs or ands attached to it. I am looking foward to your story. And I hope that whatever house you joined that it has been everything that you dreamt.

round 2

so the next morning, i logged into the computer when i woke up (we have this online system that tells you the houses you get back to) and i was thrilled to get: (max of 9)

1. carnation
2. lily
3. daisy
4. sunflower
5. rose
6. lilac
7. tulip
8. daffodil
9. iris

the only house that cut me was dandelion, so i had to go to tulip in its place but i wasnt upset at all!!

this was philanthropy round, so at all the houses we did a cute craft project

carnation- the girls in this house are all beautifullll and i connected well with most of the girls i talked to. today i could kind of see the fake stereotype the house has but i still thought all the girls were wicked cute

lily- ah loveeed this house! two of the sisters i talked to yesterday came over to say hi and how happy they were that i was back and i had great conversations with all the girls i talked to this day. definitely one of my favorites

daisy- fav house so far!! this seemed to be the popular choice among all the PNMS, and i could see why. every single sister was amazingg so cute, funny, pretty, and sweet. i was so busy talking that i didnt even get to do their project

sunflower- another amazing house! i knew my choice of ranking at the end of the day would be really hard. the girls were so easy to talk to that i felt like i knew them for years. deffff wanted to return here

rose- again, the girls i talked to here were realllly sweet and genuine. i dont think i connected as well here as i did at some of the other houses but the girls i talked to here were definitely some of the nicest

lilac- hilarious is the only word i can use to describe this house. i was laughing the wholeee time and could definitely picture myself as a sister here. i hoped i would get to come back!

tulip- i liked this house more than i did the day before, and their philanthropy project was definitelllyyy the cutest out of any house i went to that day. i still didnt feel the strongest connections with the girls i talked to here though, but i wouldnt mind going back

daffodil- LOVED it. funny girls, reallllly cool and chill and i could tell they were a fun bunch of girls. their project was cute too

iris- i liked this house more in round 1, as nothing about it really stood out for me in round 2. i still didnt want to rule it out though..

i was so confused about what to do cause i liked almost every house! eventually, though i did have to pick 6 so i ranked..

1 daisy
1 lily
1 daffodil
1 lilac
1 sunflower
1 carnation
2 rose
2 iris
2 tulip

now i would have to wait a whole week to find out where i was asked back toooo
