For any ADPi's out there, or those who might know what to do.
Ok, I have a huge problem. I am a freshman and have became an Alpha in Alpha Delta Pi. I have NOT been initiated, becoming a Delta member yet. I attend a very expensive univeristy and have just recently been told this is my first and final year here and I am being forced to transfer next year. The school I am highly considering does not have a chapter of ADPi and I am crushed. I absolutely love my ADPi girls and am very sad to leave. The question is: Can I start a new chapter at this new university as an Alpha or when I leave am I considered nothing to ADPi anymore? I am trying to get initiated before I leave to be a Delta and start a new chapter.
Help Me!!!! lol
Pi Love,

I'm assuming that if you are initiated, you are considered an ADPi alumna if your new school has no chapter.
About starting a new chapter of any sorority:
It is not something that just happens. There is a VERY specific procedure that needs to be followed.
For starters, the school must be open for expansion before ANY new Panhellenic sorority can come to campus (ADPi or otherwise).

KSUViolet is correct, when an initiated member of ADPi transfers to a campus where there is no Chapter she is considered an alumna or Pi member.
I sent you a pm regarding the rest.

Unless there is another school you are considering that does have ADPi, you basically have two choices:
1) Get initiated and get involved with the closest alumnae chapter to your new school.
2) Drop out of ADPi before initiation and go through recruitment at your new school.
Starting a chapter of ADPi at your new school is not a decision in your hands. The school has to be open to extension (and this is not something you can beg/convince Panhellenic to do---it's based on upward membership trends among other things), ADPi has to be interested in the school, and the Panhellenic has to choose ADPi.
Whether you choose option #1 or #2 is up to you. I really don't know what I would have done had I been in your situation as a new member.
Even if you choose another school with ADPi, the chapter may be nothing like the one you're in now.

OK, Thanks. I'm in NC and considering UNC-Pembroke, which is, to my knowledge, one of the only campuses within the UNC system without a chapter of ADPi. I am currently attending Methodist Univeristy and my chapter (Theta Epsilon) is brand new.

Be sure it's ADPi you love and not just the sisters in your chapter at Methodist. Oftentimes, girls join chapters because they get along with that particular chapter and find that they don't click as well with a chapter at the school they transferred to. I say this because, once you're initiated, you cannot join a different NPC sorority, EVER. So if you feel that you might want to go through recruitment again at UNC and possibly join a different org, then don't get initiated into ADPi (but also be absolutely certain that's what you want to do since there is no ADPi chapter at UNC Pembroke). Starting a new ADPi chapter at UNC Pembroke at this stage in the game is far-fetched at best.

Since you offered the information, UNC Pembroke just brought Kappa Delta to campus last year AND has Gamma Phi Beta lined up to colonize next year IF conditions warrant. If Panhellenic recruitment numbers continue to rise, they will be adding another chapter, but it is already predetermined which NPC will come. If the recruitment numbers remain constant or are not large enough to add another chapter, they won't.
ADPi is not going to be at UNC Pembroke while you're an undergrad.
ETA: ADPi has alumnae chapters in Durham, Raleigh, Charlotte, and Greensboro, none of which are close to Pembroke. There are a handful in South Carolina too, but the closest one (Florence/Pee Dee) is still an hour away. Even if there was an alumnae chapter closeby, it is VERY different from the undergraduate experience.
If you feel a close tie to Alpha Delta Pi nationally, and don't care that you won't have an undergraduate experience if you transfer to UNC-Pembroke or anywhere else without an ADPi chapter, by all means, go through initiation.
If you want to have an undergraduate Greek experience for more than this semester, drop out during your Alpha period and go through recruitment at UNC Pembroke.
