Recruitment @ Appalachian State

My cousin is going to Appalachian State and I was wondering if anyone could offer me any insights on their Greek system. Thanks!

There are a couple threads about App State but I don't know how helpful they'll be:

App State!!

I'm an App State Alumna, but transferred in my junior year and wasn't greek at App, but I do have tons of friends that were. Panhellenic is growing at Appalachian just like the rest of the University. It is not as competetive as some of the other NC universities (NC State, Duke, Chapel Hill, Wake), but of course no recruitment is a cakewalk. Recs are helpful, but not an absolute must. There is a gorgeous panhellenic building that is a renovated hotel for the sisters to live and meet in. Check the greek life website, they have tons of info:

Tell her Good Luck and GO MOUNTAINEERS!!

This is what I know after having a sister (real sister) go through recruitment at Appalachian and join a sorority there:::

*They are all competitive, none of them are easy to get into but (like PhenomenalZTA said) are not as hard as other NC Schools... If you are a well-rounded person you will do fine.

*Don't require recommendations... I've had friends get into the house of their choice without them... but they don't hurt either

*Get involved early on campus! Like most sororities, the chapters @ App really like to see early involvement in Clubs, Organizations and High GPAs!!! I just specifically remember hearing my sister say how important that was during rush at her Appalachian

*Overall the Greek system there is strong and seems to have a lot of fun. They are respected on campus but are certainly not the only thing to get involved in there. They do not RUN the campus like larger schools but definitely make a huge impact. Greek life there is GROWING and I know they are looking at expanding this year.

*Alpha Delta Pi, Alpha Omicron Pi, Alpha Phi, Chi Omega, Delta Zeta, Kappa Delta, Phi Mu, Sigma Kappa*

The university just expanded last year with the addition of Alpha Omicron Pi.

Angie, I hope your cousin decided to go through recruitment at ASU. After being able to help with AOII's recruitment and being involved as an advisor there for the last year, the greek system at ASU is great. The organizations are all strong, and their members are involved in other activities on campus. The members have a strong emphasis on grades as well. If your cousin did go through recruitment, I hope that she enjoyed it and is enjoying her new home.
