Question about recruitment
Hi everyone! I have a question for you all. First, I am planning on going through fall recruitment this August. I am going to a small school in AR. Anyway, I am wondering how you get "cut". I don't know anything about the whole process. I know you visit all sororities, pick 3 the next night, and 2 the final night (preference night). What if I cannot choose just 2? Will the other 2 offer me a bid even if I don't put them down as a preference?

No one here is going to tell you exactly how people are "cut". It's different for every chapter. And no you cannot recieve a bid from a sorority whose preference party you did not attend.

I didn't want secrets or anything, just how being cut works.

Is being "cut", when a sorority knows they do not want to offer you a bid for whatever reason? So they don't invite you back?

If you're talking about a structured type of recruitment, where there are multiple parties to attend that involves you ranking your choices for which you would like to return to, being "cut" from the sorority can mean either they chose not to invite you back, or you ranked them so low that even if they wanted to invite you back your schedule was filled and they were unable to.

You have to choose just two, or at the very least, rank 2 above the others as your favorites. That's how rush works. With four groups, you should be able to get a handle on which ones you like and which ones like you.

You are "cut" by a chapter when they choose not to invite you back after one of the rounds.
So if you attend Alpha, Beta, and Gamma, and the next day, only Beta and Gamma are on your schedule, you have been released (or "cut") by Alpha.
Also, if you attend 2 chapters for Pref, those are the 2 you should be ranking at the end. It makes no sense to include chapters that you did not attend for Pref in your final rankings because you won't get a bid there.

if you were not invited to a sorority's pref. party, you will not appear on their bid list, so putting that sorority on your preference list will be a moot point. only put down the sororities whose pref. parties you do attend-unless you absolutely would not accept a bid from them-you don't want to waste their choice, when they could go to the next person on their list and get someone who really wants to be a member.

Someone should have explained that to my PX back in the day...she told me to rank all the chapters, even the ones whose parties I didn't go to.
