Grand Chapter

Anyone here plan to make it up to Toronto this summer for Grand Chapter? I'm planning on road-tripping up there from Oklahoma. Made the trip last year to College of Chapters and it was a blast! I'm already pretty pumped about Toronto.. I've been up that way but never stopped into that town. One of my bro's honeymooned there and said he loved it.. Hope to meet some of ya'll and remeet others!

Any Texans planning on taking I-35 through the Oklahoma City area? (or westerners through on I-40 or 44?)

I'm not a texan, but I'll be at grand chapter, with something between 1-6 other brothers of mine. It'll be a blast.

$$$$ TO REGISTER

Ack... I just registered as a paid attendee to Grand Chapter... $250 for the registration and for the 4 bed room 400sq ft it's $888 US or so (for all 4 days).

It's completely worth it of course. We're going to have a blast.

If you're putting off registering for your hotel room do it now, the Royal Fairmont (location of GC) is running short on space (at least that's what the reservation clerk told me).

This Year's trip to Toronto.

I'll be going with 3 of my brothers. We are going up a day early, so that we can watch a Blue Jay's game, and go to the hockey hall of fame before everything starts. Who else is heading up this year?

The EC, LC and myself from Mu Tau will be going... I reserved a 4th seat but it's now empty so I may be cancelling that one.

We'll most likely get to go to a Blue Jays game while we're there. If this GC is like the last one they'll try to keep us entertained. Otherwise you'll find most of us in a nearby bar.

The drinking age is only 19 so HQ has to be a little worried about that and I'm sure they'll be taking some pretty significant measures to keep this a dry event.

Didn't work so well at CoC though.

Limo's they did send. They were nice. I took a car ride from the airport to the college(limo was full) and an overfull limo back. but still. it was nice that they sent a limo.

So as far as what happened at Grand Chapter....

I loved it for starters. The new recodified LAW will be helpful and I think that adapting our chapter to the VBR system will be extremely beneficial.

How are ya'll doing with the new changes?

Grand Chapter was perhaps one of the greatest times i've had as a Sigma Nu. It was an experience I would recommend to anyone.

At first I didn't agree with the minimum standards, now Pursuit of Excellence but after we were given some time to get on track I can honestly say this is what is best for Sigma Nu.

The recruitment plan is ok, It seems a bit cold and sterile in places but it's good to give chapters an idea of what things they should and shouldn't push durring Rush(recruitment). That disk will be helpful for the spring semester, we've already got this semester planned.

Recodification of the law was a needed change. From the looks of the amount of changes it took quite some time. If I'm not mistaken it took almost four years.

The night life in Toronto was something else. Thursday night at the Loose Moose was a blast. The whole place was overun with Sigma Nu's. It was really hard to get up the next morning for the VBR Presentation. I missed it and from what I hear I wasn't the only one.

All in all G.C. changed me I'm more dedicated to this fraternity than I have ever been before. It reminds me of how i felt after my initiation I've got that fire back and I know I'm not the only one.

I completely agree!

I'm pumped about our first Candidate Class coming through this Fall... I'm excited about implementing VBR. The Minimum Standards are exactly what I think the National Fraternity needs to give chapters some direction.

I was also against Minimum Standards going into Grand Chapter. I felt like anything that could be used to close a chapter was inherently bad.

However, I can see now that it would only shut down a chapter if they showed true lack of dedication to our principles (for 3 years).

The next Grand Chapter being in St Louis is also going to be great. I'll be alum then and it's our goal to have an alum chapter there to represent the Mu Tau chapter. St. Louis is only an 8 hour drive instead of the 24 hour drive we had from Edmond, Oklahoma.

That reminds me, I have my reimbursement check still uncashed...

How do all of your chapters fare as far as attaining minimum standards?

I had a good time at Grand Chapter. I must say, I enjoyed College of Chapters more, but thats to be expected, with the focus of the two meetings being so diffrent.

As for the min standards. Counting up at GC, I came up with anything from 87-84, depending on what technicalities you wanted to count.
