Sigma Tau Gamma was founded on the Campus of Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, Missouri. Our HQ is currently located in the city not far from Central Mizzou State.

ZBT HQ was first housed on the campus of Columbia University in 1903. In 1909, the HQ was moved 2 blocks away from Columbia University to a large office as the fraternity grew and added more staff members. The HQ stayed basically in that general area until 1971 when ZBT took over the Phi Sigma Delta HQ near NYU after the merger. In 1987 the HQ moved back to the area near Columbia University, and in 1995 it was voted by the Grand Surpreme Council and National Assembly to re-locate the HQ to Indianapolis, Indiana where is currenty resides today.
Z.B.T. Society was founded at Columbia University in 1898 and the Grand Alpha Chapter was established at CCNY in 1903 when it changed to a Greek-Letter Fraternity.

Looking at the Union Triad:
Kappa Alpha Society - HQ in Lansing, NY, which is near Ithica. That is about a 3 hours drive.
Sigma Phi Society - HQ is in Ithica. Also a 3 hours drive.
Delta Phi Fraternity - HQ in Athen, GA. Really far away.

Sigma Nu is HQ'd in Lexington, VA, just a short walk away from where we were founded... just through town and up a hill.

With Peachtree City not being too far from Atlanta, Alpha Delta Pi's Executive Office, Foundation, and Museum is located in Atlanta. Our Alpha Chapter was also founded at Wesleyan College in Macon, not far down the interstate. The Macon Magnolias do tend to think the same!
Also, I always thought that so many GLOs had HQs in Indianapolis due to its central location. Obviously, the tax incentives helped, too!

I was thinking the same thing...
As far as Phi Mu HQ, I'm going in about two weeks! SUPER EXCITED! Finally.

Kappa Delta was founded in Farmville, Va, and the National Headquarters are located in the Southwind section of Memphis. So, southern, but not near the Alpha chapter.
In the 70s and early 80s at least, the Headquarters was located in Denver.

Yeah, I always wondered why you guys had to snub the rest of the Miami GLOs and put your HQ somewhere else.
As I noted yesterday, our HQ, which is called "Lyrecrest," is nowhere near Boston, where we were founded. I forgot, however, about an interesting factoid about Lyrecrest. The address in Evansville is 10600 Old State Rd. Coincidentally, this address -- 10600 -- corresponds to the date (two years to the day after our founding) that we established our Beta Chapter and went national: October 6, 1900. Lyrecrest has three buildings on about 5 acres; there is also a small lake or pond and an oil well. (The oil well predates our purchase of the property 1970; I don't think it's operational anymore.)

MysticCat- I lived in Evansville for several years and was married there. Our organist is a Phi Mu Alpha- in fact I think he worked as the editor of your magazine at the time we were married (2000- so he might have moved on by now).
I am now in Indy and live close to Founders Road. I heard that the fraternities/sororities that are HQed here are here because of the incorporation laws. For some reason (probably taxes as stated) they incorporated in Indiana- however the incorporation law requires that they have a physical presence here- so the HQs are here.
As for AOII- they were once headquartered here, before the move to Tennessee.

As was stated, Sigma Phi Epsilon's HQ is in Richmond, VA. That's also where our fraternity was founded (which was not stated).

Cool. And if you want, PM with me the name and I can tell you what he might have done at Lyrecrest and whether he's still there.

Sorry. I thought I did convey that clearly enough when I said:

For what it is worth, the first General Headquarters was in Chicago (1914) which moved to Evanston in 1950 (an old "historic" mansion). Then in 1966, Headquarters moved to the current location in Evanston - 1714 Hinman Avenue.
By the way, the Fraternity owns the Founding Site in Oxford, Ohio.

Colorado is practically in the middle of the country...the only state that would be more central probably is Kansas. And for our organization I think it's very central, as we have many chapters in the west/mid-west/southwest and increasingly the south. We're also not the only GLO to have our HQ in CO.
I do think our HQ used to be in a different state, though...any Gamma Phis know?

Gamma Phi HQ
When I pledged, it was in Illinois. My "The Gift from Syracuse" is packed, so I can't check the history of our hq.
