just a few questions.

hello everyone, i am a junior at an HBCU with a 2.733 GPA and I am planning on joining a sorority. The women of the sorority i want to join know i am interested, one has called me more than once and we just chatted. she asked me how my grades were, was i ready for the new semester, how my family was doing etc and i also personally know 3 other members. I am confident in my decisions and after reading some of these threads I am not sure if I should wait to raise my GPA up to join or take my chances with this GPA i currently have. I want to bring nothing but my best to them, would it be disrespectful to go to the interest meeting with this gpa?

It would not be disrespectful, but be aware that you may not get a bid because of it.

At an HBCU, she's likely talking about an NPHC sorority and they don't do bids.

I dunno. I think it depends on your relationship with the members, what all you bring to the table, if they really like you well enough to take the grade risk, etc, etc.

I'm one of those people who never gave a crap about GPA as long as it was above the minimum. I also didn't pledge undergrad. Or a sorority. LOL.

Assuming that you're talking about an NPHC sorority, you can always go to an informal interest meeting if only to get more information, even if you didn't have the required GPA.

To play Devil's Advocate, I have a few questions for you.

Do you have above the minimum required GPA? If so, why wait? The best question is what if you DON'T raise your GPA? Then what? You'll still have to roll (with the GPA) you have, so....

If I was you, I'd give it a whirl, assumping that you are talking about a NPHC. When I was pledging, in my line, a lot of my sans were juniors and seniors. We had about about 10 sophomores (If I am recalling correctly) and I was a junior at the time. The question is do you think while you're pledging that you will be able to maintain your grades/classwork and if initiated, will you be able to do better?

I don't know if you're currently active or not but please use the correct terminology for today. As you know, we no longer pledge but rather have membership intake. It's important to communicate the right things; the NPHC interests that come here are very impressionable.

So sorry, it's been too many years and too many days and it's too early in the morning. However you are correct in the language useage; but yes, if she were interested in membership intake, it's something that she should give a whirl as long as she feels that she can handle the pressure that will form on her, from many levels, during that time.

just make sure that if you're selected you will be able to maintain your grades as well as your classes. It's a very hard combination to do at the time. Make sure that you study, study, and study so that you will be able to graduate in all areas. Good luck to you!

Yes I do have the minimum GPA and now I don't plan on waiting.

Which was also the correct terminology when libramunoz was initiated.

Also, that GPA doesn't seem too low? Perhaps for sororities?

Here, the black fraternities generally always fall at the lower end of the grades compared to the rest of the fraternities.
