I can guarantee that some PNMs will wear Uggs. I think this falls in the same category as Juicy sweatsuits...you will see people wearing them, but why knowingly put yourself on the low end of the dressiness bell curve? Some women in some chapters might think it's too casual.

Pref

I'd go with the grey dress, simply because there will be tons of girls with black dresses.

Sounds good, but you might want to take down what you plan to wear. It might be generic enough, but it could identify you.

a few more questions...

for second round, would heels be a bad idea? I personally love heels and think they look cute but idk. Also, do people wear like northfaces and coats over their outfits, I have some cute fancy shirts but there short sleeve so idk if I should wear a sweater over it or if I can just wear my jacket and take it off when I get inside.
Thanks =)

The reason people here have been cautioning against heels is because during second round, you are going to be doing a LOT of walking and if you are wearing uncomfortable heels, your feet are REALLY going to hurt at the end of the day. You don't want to be limping into the last few of your parties. If they are comfortable, I'd say go for it. You could also bring a pair of comfortable shoes to wear while walking and then change into more comfortable shoes when you go into the party. Regarding the sweater thing....if its a cute sweater that is going to look good over the short sleeved shirt you are thinking about and you will still look classy and put together, I'd say go for it. Its supposed to be pretty cold next week. On the other hand, all the parties will be indoors, and the individual chapters will take care of taking your coat when you walk in. You won't have to wear your coat or lug it around with you in the chapter houses.

I will second the advice to wear cute flats or bring comfy shoes to wear in between parties. Dress warmly but avoid bulky jackets!
I'm going to be attending UMD in the Fall and I've been really interested in greek life!

When does the fall rush begin?

I believe UMD has fall informal for upperclassmen and freshmen can only participate in formal recruitment, which is in Jan.

I seem to be posting this alot lately, but:

It is never a good idea for a PNM to come on the internet and say "I want to be in or am interested in ________ sorority."

Recruitment is a mutual selction process that works best when PNMs are open to all chapters that are participating.

It's just not good to get your mind set on ONE particular sorority because you never know if they will choose to invite you back.

just to clarify: A freshman can go through informal recruitment during her first semester at Maryland, but she must have 12 credits and a 2.5 GPA to receive a bid. I suggest waiting until the spring to go through recruitment so that you can adjust to college life. I'm VERY flattered that you're interested in ZTA, but just remember that the internet isn't as anonymous as it looks! best of luck with recruitment and welcome to College Park

If you are really interested in ZTA, I'd assume it's because you know members, and they would be the first people most would ask about recruitment...anyway, fall RECRUITMENT begins shortly after classes begin.

If you are a transfer student/upperclassmen/freshman with AP credits, informal will start shortly after classes. Recruitment dates most likely will be on the UMD Panhellenic website. Just please remember-discretion is KEY! The internets are not as anonymous as one might think!
