First off, I think Ohio State should no longer be allowed to refer to themselves as THE Ohio State...and secondly, they should be banned from BSC bowl games. They apparently just aren't meant to win one. I'll now hunker down and face the backlash.

There are a lot of OSU's out there -- and if they want to refer to themselves as such, what's the harm in that? I could have sworn I read somewhere that "The Ohio State University" is also the official name of the school. My sister Benzgirl can correct me if I'm wrong.

I know you're just speaking outta your ass here, but if they keep winning games and earn their way to a BCS bowl berth, then so be it. I doubt TPTB will ban them just because they can't win a BCS bowl game.

The reality is that OSU was clearly the worst of the BCS teams, getting there primarily because the selection committee feared the ramifications of two mid-majors (and the resulting 1-6 Big Ten record is a result of having to move every team up one spot in a down year, as an aside). The fact that they came back to take UT to the wire actually speaks well of OSU, regardless of my personal distaste for Tressel's dipshit vest and probable cheating.

Off the top of my head, I can think of THE George Washington University. It's a school pride thing.

^^^ Exactly. I know I have my pride in graduating from The University of Georgia. We Bulldogs don't want any confusion with any other schools. |

My son just called, they are tail-gating at the National Championship and he says it is insane! It seems like the entire Gator Nation has descended upon Miami!!
He is nervous, but the beer is helping.

"THE" has nothing to do with football, pride or anything else you might think. The reason that the trustees added this was to avoid confusion in recognition of Ohio State. We already have at least three OSUs in the national spectrum.
It's sort of like the GC arguement of USC: Carolina or California. Students in the Carolina's cringe when people think USC is simply the Trojans. I do the same when I see OSU as Oklahoma or Oregon.

Nate, if you are going to make such an inane statement, at least get your facts straight.

 | I just meant the comment as playful banter, nothing too serious...lighten up just a bit.

Congratulations to Tim Tebow and the Gators.

Now, who blows more big games, Jim Tressel or Bob Stoops?

I'd also like to say that I go to "A University of California at Berkeley, if you guys want to build another one, that's cool, peace on earth man".
Yay hippies?

I didn't have a big rooting interest in this game, but Florida's tight end (Aaron Hernandez) went to my high school, and my parents know his mom and family from town events. Really nice family, so I'm happy for them that their son got a national championship (and that he had a good game on top of it all).
