I'm sorry to hear that it's been rough for some pnms you know, shadden. We all hope that everyone can have a happy result, and it's sad when they don't.

Maybe I'm just used to girls I know dropping out. It's been my experience the last few years that some great girls dropped with some great groups remaining on their schedules.
It will be very interesting to see the numbers if they report them like they did last year.
I'm sorry for your girls, Shadden.

Shadden, I agree. It hurts to hear of those girls who have suffered cuts from all the groups. At these large schools, I know that it happens often.
UGAalum94, I'm with you. I can't get over how many girls have dropped with some truly great groups on the table.

Sorry for just now reading this thread....gee..I thought it was about SEC
When I was at WGa Chapter Rec. workday (gosh, brain is blank and I can't remember what day, lol but it was about 3 weeks ago. There were about 150 pnms that had signed up which was awesome because same time last year there was 50. Last year quota was 15 or 17. This year it will prob be 25-30 if not too many drop out/released.
I think that the new Univ village and publicizing a bunch has really helped.
Good luck to your daughter. (Rec. is August 28-Sept. 1 (pref and bid day same day).

700 some signed up-- not sure on the exact number...
Given that all but one sorority will fill 70+ girls, you're looking at around 150 girls who will get no bid. Should be an exciting rush. The girls are well into work week already. The lack of girls around the house is somewhat depressing due to work week.

Right now there are between 700-750 signed up. Grade checks will be completed Wednesday and the final number will be available then.

I had heard that, given all the "everyone is special" stuff lately.......everyone that hangs in there through rush is guaranteed a bid somewhere (arkansas). seems crazy to me......true or false?

It's really not that bad considering you could be cut out before prefs. It's just saying that if people are serious enough to pref you and you're serious enough about them to list all of them on the bid card then you get to match to someone.
It's not quite like they spot you invites all the way through. If a group doesn't really want to see someone in the pledge class, they probably shouldn't be preffing her anyway.

I have never heard that Arkansas has guaranteed placement, and it is very, very competitive to boot. But at any campus if a PNM "hangs in there" they are extremely likely to get a bid. It just might not be to the chapter they want.

This is what I was going to say. There is at least one chapter who will take you as long as you don't flip them off or piss in their living room. But seeing as they usually end up taking only 40 people, most people don't go that route.

In the past, they've had quota additions, but they don't guarantee bids even if you maximize apparently. So, it's possible that a girl could just be too far down the bid list to make it even if she maximizes, especially if she only preffed one house and has only one place she can be added.
On the other hand, she does have a better chance than just regular bid matching would allow if she's close to the point on the list at which the group made quota.
(Up until last year, I though that QAs meant that a girl would be matched no matter what if she maximized, but not at UGA at least.)

This is what happened to one of my daughter's close friends last year (that's how we learned about it together, UGAalum94, remember?!) She was heartbroken, to say the least. She was just too far down the bid list and the chapter was at total even though it was smaller than some of the other chapters at UGA, they couldn't take her.
However, a couple of weeks later she accepted a bid to another chapter through COB and was named their outstanding new member last year. Her picture even appeared in this year's Pointer on that chapter's page.
Four chapters did COB in the spring, and the chapter that she had preffed during formal rush ended up participating, but she is very happy where she pledged and is already serving in a leadership position.
So, the moral of the story is......heartbreak happens. What you do with it after that is up to you.

Once again, GC has been a place for moms to vent, alums to relive memories and for those of us proud to be greek to see that our future is safe.
Many of the moms here can give stories of the heartbreaks and tears shed, but many, too, can share happy-ending tales of girls who found their true homes, even though it wasn't Mama's home. You know, my DD is my daughter, so I don't have to have her as my sister....that bond is not going anywhere anyway, right?
So, I'm sending out some SEC love to my two sisters who've been with me since we pledged in 1979 and since the second pledged in 1980. I'm so fortunate to have you both in my day-to-day lives and, really, that's all any of us want for those greeks that come behind us to have....true supportive sisterhood. "Be her badge what it may."
Meanwhile, there are a lot of excited sisters getting ready to meet the new class at UGA in a very short time....houses are being decorated, food is being prepared, and fun is planned. If your DD receives bad news, it's not the end of the world, but maybe an opening to something different.
Okay....sorry, I've been preachy, but I've been stuck in appts all day and couldn't keep up! Forgive the sappy, long note....
