A scary but cool thought...

A future President of the United States is on facebook RIGHT NOW.

Like, in 10, 20, 30 years, most of the candidates for President will have had a facebook account.

CRAZY!

Ah, how much easier it is to publicly trash your reputation before you even get your life started.

"Shid - I don't even want to THINK about our future president's Facebook, but it is certainly a wakeup call to undergrads (and everyone else for that matter) who put questionable things on their account. Most likely, those things are still going to be there 5-10 years later, and you might have even forgot they were there, or even completely forgotten about Facebook when the next big thing comes around.

If they don't know that already, they're in trouble. I know for a fact that there are employers and graduate schools that look for anything questionable on social networking sites. It's just a matter of time before a Facebook/MySpace issue comes up in a national race.

You people are all insane!!! lol

And yes, I have personally used facebook to weed people out of a pool of "already hireds." Basically, about 140 or so people had been hired to work as summer teachers for a program i was a site director for. They were all undergrads at specific schools. We had sort of a "draft" meeting where we could pick our favorites and negotiate. Well, prior to that meeting I got on facebook and eliminated the ones who were wack jobs. (I also had somebody on GC help, LOL)

Shady, yes, but research is legal!

Funny this thread got started....peep this:

Bob Schaffer's Son Apologizes For Obnoxious Facebook Page

By Andrew Tilghman and Kate Klonick - August 5, 2008, 1:06PM

The son of Colorado GOP Senate candidate Bob Schaffer is causing his dad a little embarrassment on the campaign trail this week.

Nineteen-year-old Justin Schaffer publicly apologized for putting up posters on his Facebook page including one declaring "Slavery Gets Shit Done."

Among the Facebook page additions are a plethora of images that mock Barack Obama -- painting him as Muslim, elitist, homosexual and a terrorist. One even goes so far as to compare the presumptive Democratic candidate for president to the cereal-box character "Count Chocula."

The page also includes several pro-gun images. One "bumper sticker" shows an image of Jesus holding an M-16 in front of a Confederate flag, with the words "What Would Republican Jesus Do?" Another features a bevy of different kinds of guns with the words, "Celebrate Diversity" underneath.

Every time I think of something like this I end up untagging myself from numerous pictures and taking questionable items (applications, bumper stickers, etc.) from my profile. Lol

i worked with a dude who seriously believes he will run for president (he had the year outlined and all of that, i cant remember when though, i think i was 2032?) and has yet to create a facebook or myspace. he only uses AIM (his SN is his real name) and when he sends his resume via email he password protects it.

and obvi no smoking or underage drinking. but his closest friends says hes no snore, so i guess its possible that hes the life of the party.

paranoia? perhaps. safeguarding? perhaps.

I have a friend who just finished law school with serious ambitions of running for President. She's actually pretty conservative (her Political Beliefs say "Fred Thompson"), but she's got Freaker's Ball pics on her profile. There's nothing TOO racy, but I still don't think posting a pic of yourself in the shortest, tightest police costume in the world is a good idea with those ambitions.
