Maybe to you, but I'm not really sure why you are getting so outraged. I actually think it's pretty funny and blind.

Your posts belie your claim. It seems like my original statement hit a nerve. Truth hurts, doesn't it?

Therefore, the chapter is poorly representing the organization.

LOL...although I can see their take I also don't care how this would pan out in the nonNPHC world.
That's exactly it, DSTChaos. I can see you really understand where I was coming from. I don't think either way of addressing the situation is necessarily right or wrong - it's just foreign to me to be blaming the victim for being bitter over a bad experience.

To elaborate on what I said earlier, if this had happened to an AST chapter, I would IMMEDIATELY forward this to our chapter advisor and ask her to look into it, or perhaps our district president. I would be extremely upset that other ASTs were representing themselves in a way which leads to people feeling like the author...because where there's smoke, there's fire, especially in the hazing world. If I knew someone from that chapter, I would probably ask them about it, as well. The LAST thing that I personally would do is to say, "Wow, Nationals should pull her letters. She clearly doesn't want it bad enough." To me, that sounds like saying, "She couldn't handle the hazing so f*** her. If she really wanted it, the hazing wouldn't have been such a big deal."

And as far as saying that her chapter sisters aren't as smart as her...that should be clear, considering they were severe hazers. Obviously not smart.

Well, your road crews should do some repainting too then, if they are so moved to do so.

Since I am not in her chapter or her org these things may have actually happened. I know several people who regret the 'pledging' (ie. hazing) they went through (while there are others who praise it). I am surely not mad at her for posting this if it is the truth. They are her experiences.

Her mom was probably unaware if this girl is anything like one of my friends. I had a friend that 'pledge' (underground that is) whose mother is actually a member of the org she was 'pledging' yet she never told her mom because she wanted to do it on her own. She could have at least gone to mom for advice.
Yeah her experiences are her experiences. It's the "feed 'em to the wolves" mindset and approach that annoys me with these things.

People know the proper channels to go through if they have a problem with their chapter and want change so that others won't have that experience. But this blog wasn't just about that. It was about her self-revelation and need to vent at whatever cost. Just like almost everyone else who disaffiliates. Boohoo.

This just ground my gears because at first she was all like "I was treated terribly, they hazed me, etc etc..."

THEN you get into the comments and she says things like "But if you had a strong personality (I'm an ENFP on the Myers-Briggs, Tamra), sorority life is stifling and full of too much ass-kissing fealty." That comes across to me that even if she would have had a dream pledging experience and never been treated with anything but the utmost respect, she would have STILL hated it. Sorority life does require a certain amount of going along with the group (and no, I don't mean hazing, I mean having the formal at a place you hate that everyone else loves). If you can't do that at least part of the time, you shouldn't be in one.
I agree.

And as someone else said, it could've been any organization that she had this self-revelation about because some people just need something to get their wheels turning.

Being Greek isn't for everyone but it isn't the only time in anyone's life where they will have to learn how to mix and mingle for the sake of group identity and a larger cause. Work, anyone? Family, anyone? Abiding by laws, anyone? Just existing as a human, anyone? Screw that chic and her pseudo-personality analyses.

Eh...these kinds of responses are why you should stay in your lane. You're windmilling.

Okay, so I read through the article twice. Skimmed it the first time because I was also getting tired of her whining. Then, I read it again, but substituted 'garden club' for Zeta and the article became a whole lot funnier.

Just as a complete hijack (but kind of related) - how many of you know your Myers-Briggs? I'm betting we've got a little bit of everything here (my mom was OBSESSED with MBTI when I was growing up ). I'm an "INFJ".

I just skimmed the article myself...but...I have to ask...thru all her whining...what happened to discretion? What happened to keeping frat/soror business to yourself?

I have a friend who is no longer active in his fraternity because he kind of mirrors what this young lady said HOWEVER, you don't have him whining about it, you don't have him writing PUBLIC blogs slamming his org or the rest of the D9 etc and so forth.

He has 2 sons that he still hopes that when they go to college will also pledge his frat.

So, WTF? Used to be a time that if there were issues going on within an org., you din't hear about it unless you knew somebody who knew somebody who was a blabbermouth and even then you didn't spread it!

Some days, you just have to hate the internet.

I also wonder if she had a problem because she was a legacy......perhaps?

ETA: and after reading those who responded...apparently there is a pity party going too....heh.
