Meatloaf The Cat Comes Home
Feline Stuck In Shipping Crate For 3 Weeks
POSTED: 9:08 am EST February 28, 2008
UPDATED: 10:28 am EST February 28, 2008
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- After a three-week cross-country trip, Meatloaf the cat arrived at Fort Lauderdale International Airport Wednesday. And the cat probably learned a lesson that being curious comes with a price.
"I was pretty shocked. I didn’t think it was him,” said Amanda Kaufman, Meatloaf’s mom. “But it was him and he’s happy to be home.”
Kaufman was happy to once again hold her 1-year-old cat after the feline took a trip on the dark side. Meatloaf somehow got stuck inside a storage crate in Pompano Beach. That shipping pod ended up in Phoenix, Ariz.
An employee at the storage warehouse in Phoenix heard the cat meow. The worker unlocked the crate and Meatloaf took off running. Workers were able to trace the pod back to Pompano Beach where Kaufman was standing by the phone.
“After the first couple of days we were getting very worried,” said Meatloaf’s uncle, Daniel Kaufman. “We thought he was in someone’s home.”
Somehow the cat was able to survive without food or water the entire three-weeks he was stuck in side the pod.
This isn’t the first time Meatloaf has disappeared from home. In fact, he is known for taking hourly trips away from home.
The Humane Society of Phoenix put a tracking chip in Meatloaf so in case he gets lost again, someone will be able to track him down.

Here's one of the links to the real item. A Dr. Cecil B. Jacobson of Vienna, VA fathered at least 17, possibly as many as 75, children born of his infertility clinic.
He's even on Wikipedia: Dr. Jacobson, which mentions the books & tv movie on him.

Helpful roaches....
LUBBOCK, Texas - Loathed by homeowner and restaurateur, the lowly cockroach is gaining some respect in the agricultural community.
Researchers in South Texas are beginning to sing the praises of a flying cockroach from Asia that has shown a voracious appetite for pests that plague farmers. They concede, however, that most people would still be revolted at the sight of the helpful predator.
"It just brings out this visceral reaction in people," said Bob Pfannenstiel, an entomologist with the U.S. Department of Agriculture. "There's too much cultural antipathy just because of the other cockroaches."
The other cockroaches include the German variety, a common breed that doesn't fly and is often seen scattering from countertops when kitchen lights are flicked on.
The Asian cockroach, Blattella asahinai, is almost identical in appearance to the German variety and is also active at night. But instead of leftover pizza, it feasts on insects harmful to crops.
They first appeared in Florida in 1986, and the species has expanded its range ever since. They've migrated to southern Georgia, Alabama and up the East Coast.
They ventured west into Texas in 2006, and became the most common predator of bollworm eggs in the state's Rio Grande Valley region. The bollworm threatens cotton, soybean, corn and tomato crops.
Pfannenstiel has counted as many as 100 roaches per square meter in soybean fields. In one instance, he found 14 cockroaches on a single leaf. None damaged the plants.
About 86 percent of the pests' eggs — which Pfannenstiel and colleagues placed out in fields to conduct research — were gone within 24 hours.
"I saw them feeding more than any other predator," Pfannenstiel said. "It was truly a spectacle. It was unbelievable, and I'm sure they were feeding on more than eggs."

Die elsewhere or face severe punishment
PAU, France (AFP) - The mayor of a French village has issued a decree banning residents from dying in his territory unless they own a spot in the overcrowded cemetery.
"It is forbidden for any person not having a plot in the cemetery ... to die on the territory of the village," the mayor of the southwestern village of Sarpourenx wrote in a decree that warned of "severe punishment" for offenders.
Mayor Gerard Lalanne told AFP he had taken the radical measure to protest against a legal ruling preventing him from enlarging the burial ground in the village of 260 people.

Gross woman, go wash your ass.
Whipple said it appeared the 35-year-old Ness City woman’s skin had grown around the seat. She initially refused emergency medical services but was finally convinced by responders and her boyfriend that she needed to be checked out at a hospital.

Employee's suit: Company used waterboarding to motivate workers
By Erin Alberty
The Salt Lake Tribune
Article Last Updated: 02/27/2008 07:13:46 PM MST
A supervisor at a motivational coaching business in Provo is accused of waterboarding an employee in front of his sales team to demonstrate that they should work as hard on sales as the employee had worked to breathe.
Ellis said the exercise was a dramatization of a story in which a young man asks Socrates to become his teacher. Socrates responds by plunging the student's head underwater and telling him he will learn once his desire for knowledge is as great as his desire to breathe.
However, Ellis said Christopherson explained the exercise before Hudgens volunteered, no one held Hudgens down and Hudgens was free to get up if he was uncomfortable.
"It was meant to be a team-building exercise," Ellis said. "Everybody was . . . involved and enthusiastic."

US FDA names contaminant in Baxter's heparin
Wed Mar 19, 2008 11:27am EDT
WASHINGTON, March 19 (Reuters) - U.S. regulators said on Wednesday they had identified a contaminant found in batches of Baxter International's (BAX.N: Quote, Profile, Research) recalled blood-thinner heparin as part of their investigation into serious reactions and deaths.
|
Wow!! Just wow... That is NOT safe. There is an issue of immunoresponsiveness of the heparin or the ineffectiveness of the heparin--it exacerbates clotting or whatever the symptoms were... Meaning it is NOT heparin that was injected, but thioled-heparin. Just ugly!!!

I so remember this episode... oh wait, i recall the SVU one, the fountain of youth guy that was impregnating all the teen girls and bringing them into the cult with Mrs. Haggerty.
