Spitzer's party affiliation is in the first few words of the 2nd sentence in this article: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/23561606/
Back to topic, idiot idiot idiot idiot schmuck. How stupid are these high-powered, high-profile guys that do this crap and think they'll get away with it? And WHY do they make the poor wife stand behind the louse as he makes his statement? Like they haven't already been humiliated enough. Look how drawn his poor wife looks in that picture! Excellent example to set for his 3 teenage daughters. Loser.

Ever notice how many of these guys seem to think they're above the law?

Does anyone have any additional information about how the ring initially got broken up?
One report mentioned that the Feds had an "insider" working as a call girl.
Does this mean that one of the call girls (who was already working there) brokered a deal with the Feds, or did some agent actually have to be a plant? Because that is just ick, and I can't imagine that they would actually have to do that. But... can't imagine a call girl just up and going to the Feds either.
On another note, I agree that it is awful that they put the poor wives up there. I turned to my husband and told him that he would be on his own.

Co-sign!!
And re: the break-up of the ring, I don't think too many details have emerged yet, but my guess is more that they got a current escort to "turn" rather than planting a fed that had to go do... whatever she might have to do... to break the case. I would think a male fed would have gone in undercover and busted one of the escorts then got her to cooperate to lessen her punishment (that's what all the tv shows do, so I'm sure that's right ). But I'm sure we'll get all the dirty little details over time.
His poor, poor little girls. As though the teenage years aren't already difficult enough, now they get to go to school and hear about their whoring Dad.

I am waiting for the other 14 shoes to drop.
While it would seems as if they are not "public officials" I do have to wonder if any CEO's, CFO's. COO's et al are on the list.

Revelations Began in Routine Tax Inquiry
The rendezvous that established Gov. Eliot Spitzer’s involvement with high-priced prostitutes occurred last month in one of Washington’s grandest hotels, but the criminal investigation that discovered the tryst began last year in a nondescript office building opposite a Dunkin’ Donuts on Long Island, according to law enforcement officials.
There, in the Hauppauge offices of the Internal Revenue Service, investigators conducting a routine examination of suspicious financial transactions reported to them by banks found several unusual movements of cash involving the governor of New York, several officials said.

It Wasn't the Sex; Suspicious $$ Transfers Led to Spitzer
Officials Say Spitzer Is 'Client 9' in a Federal Complaint Against the Prostitution Ring
The federal investigation of a New York prostitution ring was triggered by Gov. Eliot Spitzer's suspicious money transfers, initially leading agents to believe Spitzer was hiding bribes, according to federal officials
It was only months later that the IRS and the FBI determined that Spitzer wasn't hiding bribes but payments to a company called QAT, what prosecutors say is a prostitution operation operating under the name of the Emperors Club.

I just find it interesting that apparently he was an advocate against organized crime and prostitution during his time as Attorney General, and apparently was one of the bright and up-come stars of the Democratic Party...

When Stephen Colbert kicked off his show, he said "And New York Post, I'm claiming 'Eliot Mess'".
LOL.

I just wanna know...why is it when you get caught ....you have to appear with your spouse?
When the NJ govvie came out of the closet, he was with his wife.
When Craig got caught in the bathroo......wwaaaait....
They were gay.....
O well....
So...ummm uhhh stilll....what was his excuse to his wife?
And ladies...be honest......be really really honest...if that was you and your husband had to face the media knowing how much he paid a hooker for a night...how much would he have to pay you to have you get in front of the cameras with his dumb @ss?
Dang....that is a thought....he spent $4000+ for a hooker....just think how much he will have to give up in the divorce.
How is it that you over pay for services of that sort...?
He could have saved money just by.....
SLEEPING WITH HIS WIFE!!!

^^^^ You know, I said something similar to that to my husband. But then he pointed out that we don't know what kind of relationship they had. She may be not interested in having a sexual relationship with him. I mean, she's in the time of life when hormones are in flux, so it could be biological. Or it could be that she was tired of doing it with a naked mole-rat look alike. Maybe it was a shortcoming on his part... who knows. At any rate, I KNOW that I would be nowhere near my husband if he had to make a statement like that. He'd be facing that isht on his own. I might work to forgive him, but I'm probably not going to be in a benevolent mood and help him save a little political face.
And nittany, I haven't seen Colbert yet (it comes on a day behind here), but he's going to have to take down Matt Lauer. He used "Eliot Mess" on the Today Show this morning. I haven't checked Newsday or the Daily News, but the NY Post headline: HO NO! I cracked up.
