Getting people to go to mixers!
Our colony has about 20-25 members which is about the campus fraternity average size.
Many of the sororities do not know us and I REALLY want to take advantage of that opportunity to build a good reputation. I believe that mixing with as many of the sororities as possible will give us a far more respectable reputation among other greeks. The more friends we have the BETTER we'll be. You know?
So, we have about an average size group here, HOWEVER, NO ONE goes to the social events. For instance we have 2 chapters really close by (WITHIN 5 MILES). They have parties every friday... very few of our brothers go...
Our social events are little to none, and usually without a sorority being involved... the last mixer we had wasn't even OUR mixer... it was our big brother chapters' (with one of the sororities from our school).
Problem is, events arent planned in advance, they're spur of the moment. Another problem is everyone always has some excuse that they can't go.

My two cents:
Definetly if you don't have one already, get a social chair therefore events can be pre-planned . So then , your brothers know well in advance about all social events. Eliminating that excuse of people not knowing ahead of time.
Are any of the events mandatory? ALso try some team building activities as social events, cause then u can create a stronger bond. The maybe having a better turnout for events.
Good Luck

Definitely get someone to plan things in advance! I'll tell you this, if you try to get a sorority to do a "spur of the moment" mixer, they will probably tell you to go sh!t in your hat...
I know it must be kinda hard to get something unified going around here - do people on campus when they're going out go to Oakland, the Strip, or the South Side? (I went to Clarion so I can't imagine what it is like to have the bar choices that are around here as a college student.) Just being out and about as a unified group will help you get recognized.

Advertise
I find with my own chapter which is the same size as yours and is on a medium size campus is the fact you MUST advertise like mad, i'm talking blanket the campus, you also have to exploit your resourses, other non-greek friends get them to go and bring others, also if possible announce the event to people in your classes. Sounds dumb and strenious but it will have the results. At least then people will know who you are on campus, can't gurantee they will like you but they will know who you are at least
That's my two cents as well

Like DGP honey said - PLAN. That's the number one thing - people don't realize it, but planning ahead for social events makes a world of difference.
Also - themes can be kinda fun. Be creative with it, there are lots of different themes one can have with mixers. Makes things interesting, might invite more involvement.
