Because it's still before the general election.

Ah...but that's only a conspiracy theory, right.

It will actually be June or later most likely. The IRS cannot process those checks because they are in the middle of dealing with 2007 returns. With a deadline of April 15th on 2007 returns, it will be weeks after that before they could do all these checks.

Seriously, this economic crap needs to stop. My 401K is sad.. and the interest rates on my other savings accounts have literally fell in HALF over the last month or so.

I feel you. Sadly, a Christmas club (yes, there are still a few banks that have those ) is starting to earn the same as my savings. lol I may put a little away in a Christmas club for fun, just to see what it earns at the end of the year. LOL
But on another note, if I do receive a refund, it shall be put away to pay my tax bill at the end of 2009. I usually come out even so I have a feeling this refund will need to cover me in '09.
Ahhh good times.

I have a regular bank savings acct that I use as 'Christmas savings' so I don't have to live like a college student or put Christmas gifts on my CC cards come November.
This recession crap is driving me nuts. Everyone I talk to is having issues. My 401K was seriously worth more in 2006 at this time than it is now. I'm not about to retire or anything, but it's kind of depressing when a mid-twenties person who used to get all excited about how much was saved up is now worrying what retirement is going to be like since my 401K is worth crap right now

I don't know anything about the Kansas City Star or its reputation, but I found this while browsing for something else.

I know what you mean... with the Fed cutting rates left and right (and have left the door open to further slash the rates), it is difficult for savers to see ANY returns on their investments. Yet people who have lived a little more precariously, living off of credit cards and whatnot, are getting breaks in their interest rates. Totally sucks. The only good thing out of this recession thing is that the hubby and I are purchasing a lake front lot for our retirement home at an unbelievably low price.

The younger you are, the better advantage you have when your 401K dips. The shares you are currently purchasing are CHEAP so, over time, it will just go up more because you'll own more shares. I have decided not to look at the retirement fund again for a while because it feels depressing.
