PS, I Love You

Did anyone see this without several younger teenagers making noise & tossing popcorn at boys? It seemed good, what I heard of it, but not exactly one I would plan to see again.

I saw it at Alamo Drafthouse in Houston - no teenagers, thank you Jesus! I went to humor the 18 year old and loved it - but we agree that one big reason is because we were in Ireland this summer, and so the whole "Irish" angle hit us big time. Yes, I was sobbing, but largely because Ireland is SO beautiful, and it really gets to you. I miss Ireland - how about that? 200 years later and I'm still feeling the familial pull! It was good - not great, but better than I expected. I think it would not be a good first date movie - but a terrific girls' night out. Especially at the Drafthouse - mmmmmm, sangria and blue cheese burger!

I'm not sure I want to - I loved the book soooo much, I feel like it will just ruin it for me! Just didn't seem as good from the previews.

I really enjoyed the book, so I was skeptical on going to the movie as well. I read it a while back and the movie seemed different than how I remember the book...though it could just be the years between. It is worth seeing though...better than a Lifetime Movie.

Did not read the book but saw the movie.

I sobbed for over 2 hours. I could not stop bursting into tears. It was so very sad. I am not sure that Hilary Swank was the right choice for the main role. I could have seen Jennifer Garner (though she has never done anything as serious, that I can think of). It seemed like Swank was trying too hard to be vulnerable and "cutesy" and it just didn't work for me.

Otherwise, it's a decent chick flick. I had mostly older ladies in the audience. A lot of time, you could hear people whispering, "she's too skinny", "I like her shoes", "that dress is so cute".

A few memorable parts in the bar. Harry Connick Jr. was cute in his role, although it was an odd choice for him. Lisa Kudrow was a little bitter. The main guy was charming enough but a little too contrived and over-excited. Kathy Bates had a very small part and she was kind of flat. The other chick (with dark hair) was forgettable.

I would give the story an B (albeit predictable), the casting a C, and the acting a B-. I would suggest waiting for video.

How much is Harry Connick in the movie? I LOVE him! But I want to know if he's in it enough to make sitting through Hillary Swank bearable. (Does that sentence make sense?)

Not enough Harry, IMHO. And he had on way too many clothes.

I agree that HS was not a good choice for the main role. Sure, she can do drama, but romantic drama? Not so much. Jennifer Garner would have been a much better choice, or perhaps someone who had a little more of a likeability factor. I had a lump in my throat, but mainly because of the story, not her acting - then again, maybe it was her acting?

HC Jr was good, but looking a little paunchy...I remember him as much hotter in Memphis Belle, plus the role he played was a little odd.

Lisa Kudrow was ok, but looking a little oldish in this film compared to "Friends" days.

I find it funny that the guys they used for Irish guys, one is Scottish (Gerard Butler - Phantom from recent film and King Leonidas from 300- soo hot) and the other is from Seattle. Having been to Ireland a few times, they did an ok job, but their accents could have been better. At least Butler's was passable, the American guy needed some work. It was especially ironic that the American guy was in a preview playing a NY firefighter right before the movie started though.

It was an ok movie, go to a matinee, don't pay full price. Heck, I'd even suggest waiting for the DVD.

Anyone know where I can get the coat Hillary Swank wore when she was in Yankee Stadium? I'm in love!
