Crest Question

Hello Everyone,
I am an alum from waaaay back (I joined about 6 months before Phi Bear did) with a daughter about to go through Spring 2008 Rush. This site has been wonderful in helping bring me up to speed with current issues and terms but I have one question I have not seen here or on the APhi site.
Back in the old days we were not allowed to use or even own anything with the crest until we were intitated. A young friend, active in another GLO, tells me that this is not the case in her chapter. So before I write it off as a long gone tradition, I thought that I would ask all of you who have already given me so much help. Your thoughts will be much appreciated! Thanks.

Unless things have changed in the three years since I've graduated, only initiated sisters are allowed to wear the crest or use it in anything.

I have never heard of this rule before. It may exist, but I was a charter member for 2 semesters and then advised for 6 years afterwards (finishing up earlier this year when I moved), and this is news to me.

However, I haven't found this to be much of an issue. There isn't that much out there with our crest on it, is there?

Good luck to your daughter next semester!

Actually that is one of those urban legends that still lives out there in some of our chapters. Although we keep trying to squash the rumor that's for sure. Anyway, we definitely do NOT restrict the use of the crest to initiated members. New members (ie: pledges back in both your and my day) are welcome to use/wear items bearing our crest.

Definitely right on that one...technically, reserving the use of the crest or letters until after initiation is considered hazing. It probably used to be a tradition, but no longer is.
