At UBC all the fraternities except Beta lease their land from the university. The leases are running out so all the fraternities houses will be rebuilt in a greek village along with a new panhellenic house. Beta has opted to keep their house and land where it is - nobody is sure how this will turn out if Beta is not with the rest of the greek community.

I wish we owned our own house! That would be so cool! None of the sororities on my campus own houses (2 locals incl. mine and a national...Alpha Gams) and only 3 fraternities own houses (Sigma Chi, Phi Kappa Pi and Phi Delta Theta.....Zeta Psi doesn't...but they're looking!)
We've also been looking for a house, but it's hard. For a time we had a sorority apt (two of our sisters lived together, we had meetings there and hung our flag in their living room!) but now we have nothing!

Our house is "owned" by our housing corporation made up of alumni. We have to pay them rent on it...

When we finish; the House Corp will own and rent to the chapter, but the House Corp will lease the land from the school.

Our House Corp. owns the land and building and rents to the Chapter. We also own a 3 bedroom house and lot behind our Chapter House. In essesence we own a corner lot consisting actually 3 lots total accross the stree from campus.
On day, we hope to build a new house on these 3 lots!

That doesnt sound weird at all. With All those extra $$$ savers and add-ons of dorm life yet still together as a group. It's better than having to answer to the boitch of a landlady who hates her greek tentants. I guess the downside to dorm life is the beverage policies of campus housing.
