There are 870 (give or take) the last I heard. I don't know how many are signed up for Fraternity Recruitment, probably less I would guess.

The sun came out for a few minutes during lunch. It's really muggy outside. Hopefully things will cool off for the PNMs later on today.

What is the new GPA requirement?

From the Ole Miss Greek Life Website:
http://www.olemiss.edu/greeks/about.htm

Is there a minimum GPA for the different organizations?

There is no GPA requirement to go through the Formal Recruitment process, but some groups have strict GPA requirements of their own. You are encouraged to ask this question during the Formal recruitment rounds.

NPC affiliated sororities have between a 2.6 and 3.0 high school GPA threshold for top consideration. If you have a lower GPA than this, it is important to remember that there are some exceptions and this is not the only factor.

NPHC groups have between a 2.5 and 2.6 minimum grade point average from Ole Miss to pledge and actives must maintain a minimum GPA of at least a
2.4.

IFC affiliated fraternities have no minimum high school GPA to join but they do have a minimum 2.0 grade point average to be initiated. Many fraternities, though, have higher minimum GPAs for initiation. To find out what the minimum are, ask one of the members during Formal Recruitment Week.

Read that too...that's about the sorority's requirement...basically if you don't have a 2.5 you need to have a doctor's note...This new requirement has deterred some girls from going through and getting their grades up their first year of college to go through their sophomore year, but not that many...

I don't know if anyone said it before, but YAY for Ole Miss for emphasizing that recs are important. (Note, I'm not saying yay for them being important, just yay for Ole Miss telling it like it is.)

You could not register for recruitment this year if your high school GPA was below 2.5! That did knock out quite a few girls...but I was told they
had to lower their numbers and this was a good place to start. Most if not
all the sororities have GPA requirements.

You can get into Ole Miss with a 2.5 in high school? That surprises me. Do they forgive your grades if you have scores above a certain threshold?

Anyway, I think that's a great rule. Being at a state flagship school has to be a real challenge for someone who struggled in high school; they don't need a bunch of extracurricular responsibilities.

And 33girl, I agree with you. I wonder if Ole Miss' honesty plays a role in their very high placement rate. They seem to do a great job of telling you what you need to do to have a real chance.

If you find out the IFC recruitment numbers please post.
Also, do the men get ALL of their pledges from formal rush??? Meaning they have Zero pledges from the summer. That seems crazy to me.

And someone who only pulled a 2.5 in High School shouldn't have a prayer of getting a degree from an accredited university, (at least in my mind).

Hopefully they will have an article in the DM about the numbers for IFC recruitment. I saw the Sigma Nu's having one of their parties under a tent across from their new house which is under construction. Tonight ended up not being all rainy and nasty, which was nice!

As I understand IFC rush (recruitment) at Ole Miss, rushees may not pledge a fraternity until the end of formal rush. Having said that, I am sure the chapters have most of their pledges *picked* from summer events.

2 of my best friends are in sororitys at Ole Miss[one is a kappa and one is a kd]. they are both so stressed with this week!!! they haven't gotten home from practice[which started at 5 or 4:30] til after midnight each week. i know it's just as stressful for the girls who are in it as it is who are rushing. but best of luck to those who are[and their mothers]. ole miss rush is ten times better than other schools[trust me on that one!!]

ps: a pledge class this year should be anywhere from 90-100. my kappa friend had over 82 in her class last year! but i think it's great that they did the gpa requirement. it's cruel to let a girl go through if none of the sorority's will take her. they really should move it up to 3.0 considering thats a big cut off for most of them.

Good point, Lilly, I heard of many upset girls at my campus and they just ended up resentful after recruitment. As for your HUGE pledge class, the biggest I ever saw was 25 and that was big for us (granted, total on my campus was 90...). I just could not imagine a pledge class that big! WOW! My pledge class was 8 and it fit us just fine at the time, lol.

Bigger doesn't always mean better. I remember one chapter that would take "numbers" rather than "quality". They typically had a very high depledge rate, whether it be for dissatisfaction, not making grades or uncommitted.

I wish they would raise the gpa a little more!

I know that we used to have a study hall for all new members, and I think it helped the girls some, but my life as scholarship chairman was insane! Try chasing around 75+ girls who did NOT want to spend much time with their books!
