All of our Eckerds were bought out by CVS, with a Walgreens and a Rite-Aid down the street from each other.

That is what happened here in Delaware, also. The Eckerd converted to a Rite-Aid this past week even though there is already a Rite-Aid less than a mile away on the same street.

I guess JCPenney decided to give their Eckerd division the old heave-ho!

In NYC, the predominant drugstore is Duane Reade. It's expensive, the service isn't that great, nor is the selection, but it's EVERYWHERE. Most people have a love-hate relationship with it.

Other drugstores include CVS, Rite-Aid, and the occasional Walgreen's. Most of the independent places are being closed out by the Duane Reades popping up everywhere.

I was mad that they did! I love when you can use your JCP card at Eckerd!

Yeah, I have seen that too. I am not really a big fan of Eckerd or Rite Aid. When I lived in SC we had CVS (it used to be Revco back in the day) everywhere and I loved them. Now in NC there are a ton of Walgreen stores near my house, so that has become my store of choice.

I am a CVS gal except for when I need my berry flavored Mike n Ikes which are only sold at Walgreen's. I remember when it was good old Revco.

I live in Ohio and we still have Rite Aid. We also have some local drug stores and Walgreens.

The whole Eckerd/Thrift/Rite Aid/Brooks saga

I wanted to link that solely because of the note that the Eckerd in the pic is built on the site of Christina Aguilera's childhood home. LOL.

So now, we have Rite Aid, CVS, and Walgreen's (FINALLY) is entering the market. Plus all the discount dept stores and big supermarkets have pharmacies.

I miss Revco and especially Phar-Mor.

Back in 2000/2001, the Rite Aid on Bethel Rd in Columbus went out of business and I really thought they all did until I went home to Cleveland and saw a few there so now I know it might have just been the one on Bethel Rd.

I love Walgreens. Much faster than most other places.

Also, I hate CVS because they have that stupid discount card you're supposed to carry. Although, I don't understand why, because they always have a "courtesy card" there to use. They just give you "the eye" when you ask to use it.

We have CVS, Rite Aid and Eckerd. I see Walgreen's is trying to get a foothold here now too. I miss People's Drug.

We're overwhelmed with Rite Aid here. They are so overpriced and the service is horrible. Once they wouldn't let me pick up a prescription because they could not get a hold of my doctor to give final approval. When did that become a requirement? I would love to see some more Walgreens. We only have about 4 or 5 of them now.
