I'm 16 yrs out of college, but still sing Kappa lullabies to my daughter every night - gotta start 'em young! Just went to a reunion and saw a bunch of Kappa sisters who couldn't remember a single song, what a shame.
On pref night, we often used a current song, broadway hit, etc., and modified the words. For example, "There's a Place for Us" from West Side Story. Songs like that are generally easy enough for all the sisters to pick up the tune, and with just a few decent singers, you can do multiple parts (soprano-alto, sop1-sop2-alto). I can probably remember all the words to "there's a place:"
There's a place for us,
Kappa’s a place for us
Friends and sisters are everywhere
With their love
to share
We will wear the key
Always devotedly
In our college days and beyond
Time with sisters who share a bond
in Kappa
Kappa
We’ll find a new way of giving
We’ll find a new way of living
in Kappa
There's a place for us,
Kappa’s a place for us
Each day brings us a new ideal
in our hearts we will always feel
our love
for Kappa
I'm loving some of the Jack Johnson tunes these days. I think the lyrics from one of those could be modified into a beautiful pref night song.
Also, have you heard the John Mayer Kappa song? I can email it to you. You could have that playing on a continuous loop.
