Hey dog owners!! Have any good Kong recipes?

I got a Dachshund a few weeks ago and I just heard about Kong dog toys. I have tried one homemade treat to put in his Kong and he's kinda ehhh about it. Any of you have a favorite that your dog likes?

Oh, the treat I made was 1/2 cream cheese, 1/2 peanut butter and some liver treats. I do know that you can buy Kong stuff'n in a can, but I wanted to try different homemade stuff.

Thanks!!!

Peanut butter.

My dogs love it. We always give our current dog the jar when it's used up so he can lick it clean.

One daughter's labrador adores peanut butter in his. She can keep him out of our hair for ages by filling it with PB. (He's a large 'teenage' puppy and can clear off the coffee table with a swipe of his tail.)

See, I thought my current dog would love peanut butter too, but he's not too impressed by it. The dogs I've had before went wild when I brought out the peanut butter jar. My little dachsie is probably holding out for the goose liver pate' .

plain ole peanut butter is what my dog likes too. Ironically, she just (like 3 minutes ago) picked up her Kong and dropped it at my feet. She has never done that before! She usually only gets peanut butter in the Kong when I'm leaving for work. Is she trying to tell me to get to work???

It really depends on your dog.

One of my friends uses E-Z Cheese (store brands are obviously cheaper than the name brand). Her dog didn't like PB, and so she used this instead.

My dogs both really like bread (don't know why). We don't use our Kong anymore, but when we did, we would use bread cut up into crouton-size pieces.

Just be sure you don't use anything that has onions or chocolate in it.

Peanut butter-- be careful if you put anything like that in the kong--- it makes a mess.

You can also bake dog treats that are a good fit for the kong and put them inside-- I call this the best "babysitter" around-- fill the kong, give it to the dog and you are out the door for the day!

To avoid the mess, we put peanut butter in the kong & freeze them over night.

We stuff a treat all the way into the Kong and then fill up the base with peanut butter. It keeps my dog busy for at least an hour because he has to work to get the treat. It gives us an hour of him not jumping on our laps or scratching our hands to get us to pet him. In other words, it's an hour of bliss.

That is what I'm looking for!! My doggy will get real excited and start chewing on his toys, then he looks at my fingers and says 'NEXT!!' I want to give him an alternative to my fingers . Like I said, I don't know why he's not too excited about PB . I did come across some treats that I can bake, maybe I'll try those.

The whole reason we quit using our Kongs is because both dogs ismply lost interest. Try Nylabones - they last forever (and dogs love them), or rawhide strips (be sure to keep the water bowl full).

Our newest dog pulled a piece off a nylabone & choked on it, so we tossed it. But I agree with the rawhide strips, they really seem to love those!

I just tossed the rawhide strips that were made in China. I'll have to get some new ones. Thanks for the tip.
