I kind of thought she was talking about Texas and SMU (except that SMU has deferred rush), so maybe TCU. And, having gone through rush on both sides at SMU, I can tell you that much of what she says is not far from the mark. I distinctly remember the year that "Miss Teen USA" was rushing. We had a life size cut-out of her up in the chapter room (sent by her local alum club) pushing us to rush her hard. Big name rushees were not at all unusual and it was a feeding frenzy in some ways to get those girls.
(Nice Memory - Every day after rushing we looked forward to the yummy food (especially donut cakes, mmmh good) sent by the alumni clubs)
Some of the clothing she describes would not be unusual either. Yes, espadrills and mexican dresses were aplenty, but there were so many girls rushing from different parts of the country, where styles were different, that you'd see just about everything. I wore linen walking shorts and a silk safari shirt (gorgeous, wish I still had it) and flats (probably with tights) the first day. I'm sure that at some point during rush I wore hose and high heels though. I was there in the early eighties and we definitely wore hose, although tights were really more common. The fashion then was Laura Ashley dresses with tights or VERY preppy shorts/skirts with cumberbunds (Harolds) and high necked shirts that buttoned up the back. It was definitely DIFFERENT! And I don't dress like that now!! lol!

I was thinking UT and another TX private school too(smu or tcu), but TCU has always had more than 6 sororities.
But yeah, I'm not sure about the validity of this story, but keep posting!

I don't care where she goes to school just as long as she posts again sometime soon. Like I said in another thread, I am becoming addicted to these threads and always want more. I think it is to keep my mind off my upcoming recruitment (though mine will not be as competitive as this or so I believe). I believe you though.

Unless this is really recent (which I doubt it is because supposedly her & her twin now work at some firm), I just didn't understand why she doesn't want to reveal ANYTHING... time period, location, what her mother's chapter is, actual chapters at her school, etc. She didn't even have to reveal all of them, but just give us a little more detail to get an idea of where/when this was taking place.
These were the only things that keep me questioning the validity of this story. And when asked for specifics, she doesn't give an answer. Yes, she does seem to gloat about herself a lot, and everything seems too good to be true, but I thought, hey, someone out there might have what seems to be such a perfect life. Oh well.
Real or not, I agree, it does help slow days go by a lot quicker. I hope the OP will continue to post. I still want to know whatever "this thing" is.

Yes, the tone is gratingly snotty, but I'm willing to overlook that for the sheer entertainment value. even if it's false, who cares, it's a good read, and she's poured a lot of effort into writing it. so to the OP, please come back and post more, I'm still reading.
But the vision I have in my head of that panty hose with the sequins up the back...
I hadn't even thought of SVU, but wow does that bring back memories...haha, I must have read all of them.

ME TOO!!!!
But, my guess is that she's done posting. She said in another post that she typed the whole thing up in word so that she just had to copy and paste. So, it wouldn't be taking her this long.
Too bad...I was really excited to hear the ending.

i knew this thread was too good to be true! i took time out of my BUSY schedule for it to be borderline fake? phooey! then againi doubt the OP would write all that for it to be "fake." :shrugs shoulders:
(i'm NPHC too so i dont know how "fake" it sounds, but some parts definitely turned my stomach a bit. my brain was screaming "wow, go on and feed those stereotypes why dont cha?")
i actually feel bad for anyone who came in through a big SEC/greek oriented-type school. rush sounds over the top redonkulous and i wouldnt even be feeling it.
with that said, give us more!

This story was the only thing keeping me awake at work today. Too bad. . . made up or not, it was definitely entertaining.

thank you ladies... i am actually rather flattered
just a few comments and observations. honestly, i am personally very flattered that you could think i could actually make up this thread. i would never in a "ookazillion" (isn't that your term alpha frog?) years try to do something like this again... i am far too busy and attempting to do something like this takes far too much time and effort if you want to try and give details and yet make it so that people might possibly enjoy it. in reality... it is an occupational hazard. i am far, far too analytical, i no longer have that creative abililty to have come up with something as unique as this. i just do not think that way any longer... nor does syd. this is our lives and it is the only way i know how to actually explain it. thank you, i really am flattered.
but just a few points... please actually read some of the posts, i truly believe many of you just "skimmed through them" and did not really read them and certainly did not grasp several things as a few of them were quite long and took a great deal of time to compose. i addressed many of the >flames< you are now shooting at me in the thread... actually read it, please. so, the analytical side of me wants to make a few points and i have the right to indulge myself. i certainly do not feel the need to defend myself and certainly never justify myself. i am confident in who i am and am very comfortable with that. so, ladies... here are just a few points i would like to emphasize... it is an intense day at work and i do not have time so i am taking my lunch to post this. i won't "bother" you with "pulp fiction" any longer. i thought it might be interesting because at least i thought it was so different than most recruitments i have read about on this board.
* at no point did i ever say when we went through recruitment.
* at no point have i ever said where we lived.
* at no point have i ever said where either of us went to college
* and certainly, most certainly... i know the advantages of being
discrete... i have never, never mentioned our mother's name.
she would be mortified. i have no idea how anyone could possibly
google a name that has never been posted. can someone explain that
to me?
* also please read and note that i have never even my own name...
i personally know the value of being discrete. google that one!
* at no point have i mentioned our ages... other than i specifically told
jocelyn that i was a grown woman when commenting about... jeans.
* i have never mentioned if either syd or i are even married.
* i have never mentioned if either of us have a family or any children.
* also please read the first paragraph at the top of my recuitment thread
where i specifically mention our work. please see post number 35.
* i most certainly never said i bought "bratz" jeans. i was somewhat
amused and yet irritated over that "discovery." unless you are
petite... you absolutely have no clue how hard it is to buy
clothes that properly fit without being altered. i specifically said
that no grown woman would ever wear those jeans. that has to
be the worst... thank you to the wonderful ladies who understood.
* i am sorry but i have never read the 'sweet valley twins'... so i have
no personal point of reference as to what they are or who they are
other than what has been posted on here.
* jocelyn just posted about her former user name a few months ago. it
is not hard to remember a distinctive name like that and such a sweet lady... and her posts, at least in my opinion, reflect a truly compassionate and very nice lady.
* with a reception like this... and with so many wonderful ladies who
have personally left gc... why would i not lurk? i have a life.
* again, i not not nearly creative enough to have made up someone
like callie. she literally grew up in the middle of "no where" on
thousands of acres her family owned. i was not making fun of her.
she graduated with less than fifty people from high school at the most.
she is still one of my dearest and most trusted friends. yes, she
was "rough around the edges" when she first came, all she had
socially done was rodeo... and that ladies is an entirely different
world! sorority life for callie was the most wonderful thing that could
have ever happened to her.
* yes, like several of the posters... most of the pmns at my university
wore hose. it was not mandatory... but they were certainly noticed.
i still choose to wear hose on a daily basis... it just goes with the
territory of my profession.
* i said we had a "very dressy" recruitment and i meant it. that was my
style... and every woman should have their own style. tre chic!
* recruitment infractions? please read that again. i specifically said
we were lined up by height and that lyndsay soon joined us. i also tried
to keep this from being even more confusing, so i determined not to clutter it with yet other names and people. i never said how many pmns were in any of our conversations while visiting at "meet and greets."
* a negative image of a sorority woman... you know that is really
a subjective and severe judgment. many ladies on this board know
the exact pressure i was under. most of you have no concept of an
exactly social world and living under a microscope. i most certainly feel
i personally serve my sorority well. to each their own.
* finally, my use of terms. am i supposed to change my vocabulary
and "dumb it down" for "supposedly educated" college women?
many of those are regional terms and many of those references
were specifically words that "proper young ladies" used and were
taught to use. southern women understand that...
* skiing... give me a break! purses, colors, designers, movies,
characters and made-up names? skiing is a passion and something
we have done all of our lives and still continue to enjoy. i would
leave you in the powder! honestly...
again, i truly thank you. honestly, i really am honored. i would love to be that creative. i would love to work at home. i have never even ventured to think that i could be a "fiction writer." however, when one has to critically read hundreds of pages each day at work... and you are liable if you miss any nuance... that tends to make one not enjoy reading for pleasure. i always bring work home with me. gc was one of the few "decadent indulgences" that i had enjoyed in a hectic and very busy life. it brought back many fond memories. however... the snarky women and immaturity and nastiness that is now rampant on gc just reminds me of work! truly... i sincerely am flattered that you perceive i could come up with something like this thread. so post and pm away. i really do not care. the sun will rise in the morning and my life will continue... and i love my life. i love my family... i am truly blessed. i feel sorry for those of you who must criticize everything and pick everything to death. how truly sad. and to think... i thought i "over analzed" things... ladies, i have nothing on you, you are professional experts... i curtsey to you.
cheers!
