Question Your summer needlework projects?

So what are your summer projects? Tonight I finished the last of the 4 crests of the 4 sororities my daughters and I belong to. (Yes, I know that AOII doesn't have a crest--it was that fake gray and red one!) Two are cross stitch, 2 are needlepoint and I can't wait to get them framed and displayed on the wall! (Now that I've finished, daughter #6 will doubtless pledge a 5th group in the fall.)

Next project: either the cross stitch vegetable wreath or the crewel berry wreath.

That sounds really nice, carnation! What a nice display that will make! I did a needlepoint Alpha Delta Pi crest once, but made it into a pillow for my little sister. I can't begin to count the number of violets I've stitched, but my favorites are always the botanical print-type!

I've been working on two projects for what seems to be forever: a laprobe for the Veteran's Home, and a simply gorgeous Amazing Grace counted cross stitch. It's a race to see which one gets done first!

Just finished a cross stitched TKE crest for my son ... I'll probably hang it on the wall next to my Alpha Xi Delta cross stitched crest.

Now I'll start working on Christmas motif cross stitched sweatshirts for my Alumnae Association's holiday auction in Dec.

Man, it's been so long since I've done any cross stitch - it's sooooo very relaxing to me! I need to pick up the needle and floss again. I also need to locate my AKA shield pattern - I did one for a Soror that left about 2 years after we were initiated, and nothing since then.

Several projects:

One is a pictorial quilt of a china cabinet that incorporates exchange blocks that I received. Miles (or so it seems) of handcouching black cording is yet to be done before I begin the quilting part

I am working on a group quilt with some of my fellow Kappa alums that will raffled to raise money for our philanthropy, Reading Is Fundamental.

Since my D is now home from school, I am sure my fabric stash will be raided to make more Greek sewn-letter clothing items.

I need to get a small lapsize project going for the LONG twice-weekly swim meets that S has through the end of July.

Now that my Eastern Star Installation is over, I'm going to get back to finishing some of the many many needlepoint pieces I have started. My cousin once owned a needlepoint shop and I have lots or canvases to work on.

I was so surprised and happy to see this thread! I felt like such a dork at Convention when I bought the Gamma Phi Beta crest cross-stitch kit (I was 23 at the time). I finished that one this winter, but I didn't realize before I started that the material they gave me in the packet was too small to include the lamp on top and the scroll with our letters on the bottom. So I've started a second one, now. Reading about you women who also cross-stitch crests will inspire me to finish it this summer!

If you can't find a graph pattern of your crest you can always go to

http://www.darklilac.com/upload.jsp

This is a site that can generate color cross-stitch charts from an uploaded image! I tried a relatively uncomplicated image (college crest) and it spewed out a wonderful chart with 64 colors to use. You can set a limit for the number of colors (I picked 100) you are willing to incorporate. It basically changes the pixels into stitch squares, but more importantly it matches the HTML color to the DMC floss color.

I am working on a Christmas stocking for baby #3. Baby should be born the end of August, so I hope to have the stocking done by Christmastime. Then when I get this one done, I'll start on a stocking for my nephew. and my brother is talking about adopting another baby girl, so I'll have her stocking to make after that (I have made all the stockings for my nieces & nephews as well as my own kids).

So I guess it's Christmas all year long at my house!

Congratulations, ForeverRoses! Alum, thanks for the link! You're lucky, having two tones of blue - I don't like to work with little colors while "outside".

And, I had completely forgotten that I have to make a quilt square by the end of July for an auction!

In my book it does! What was the theme of the shirts? What are you using for sashing? I love seeing everyone's projects. Can you mount a picture to this thread? I haven't figured out how to do that.

Last year I made 2 for our graduating hs sr. One consisted of all hs era activities from Scouts to clubs, teams, G School, Girls' State, Page Semester etc. The other were shirts from actual road races and invitationals. I found a batik fabric that was predominantly one of her hs colors for the hs quilt. I was lucky enough to find a women-running themed fabric for the race quilt.

I've been knitting scarves. I know it's hot and so hard to think about, but I want to give everyone a really nice scarf this year for Christmas. And I can knit nicer ones than I can afford to buy everyone.

I've been meaning to find a fun KD patten though for a wall hanging or pillow.

LOL! I ordered the AOII one when my oldest pledged--I already had the Pi Phi one--and the eBay seller asked me how many daughters I had. When I told her 9, she sent me about 12 of those needlework brochures with her best wishes!
