Thanks guys,
The ritual was incredible and now that I know the complete story, everything makes sense...the songs, the lore, the pledgeship period - the world seems fresh.

How many guys did Alpha Tau initiate? I would think it was quite a few, you're house always has been large. Is it the biggest on that campus? If not in size, I would think Beta owns that campus: Grades, Campus Involvement, Community Service, Strong representation with General Fraternity, Socially, great house, spirit....etc.

We initiated 21 of 24, and I'm hoping that the other three will make it. The one who didn't make grades shouldn't have any problem. The other two we do have to rally around, and make sure they don't give up. I'm not worried about one, but he's told me that the other guy might be an issue...that he might have given up on it all so we'll have to see.
So our total is 79 - not the largest, partly b/c housing is a controllign factor in the number of guys we rush. Delt has the largest chapter of those with houses, b/c they can house 88 in their house. Pike is the largest on our campus b/c they don't have a house, and they sign pretty much anyone who expresses interest - they are really a diverse house.
We are on our way to the top of campus. Winning the lawn display at homecoming and also homecoming overall was huge. Involvement we do own...Pike might be the only one close. For whatever reason though we don't do well in IFC, but we have four Betas on the College of Arts and Sciences Advisory Board - and usually one on a majority of the other advisory boards.
We definetly have a good showing of Community Service too. My pledge class I think has revitalized a lot of the house in terms of spirit - I know that our alumni are incredibly prideful of us at this point.
Socially, is a weakness, but I think we're improving that. We're middle of the pack, but it's better than where we were from what I hear.
Grades we're usually top 3 - farmhouse usually does beat us, but 1st semester was a good one gradewise. Pledge class gpa was 3.338 or so, and the house average is over 3.4 I think.
As for saying our house was always large is partly true. We did undergo a MAJOR reorganization in spring of 95. The kicked out more than 3/4 of the house - mainly b/c the house had a reputation of pot smoking and grades weren't good etc. So our '96 composite is of only about 23 guys including pledges. Of course its apparent that our resurgance is amazing and the hopes are to keep rushing quality people.

Very nice brother.
Its very nice to see Alpha Tau is putting on the steam.
Thats great you guys are focusing on quality. That is definitely key. My chapter of course is no longer active but when we were active we always were very focused on retaining quality guys that would make good brothers and would contribute to what we wanted to promote. Hopefully sometime in the future our chapter will be reborn again.

Good to hear that things are coming along for you guys. I visited your house in March, 1996....right after your re-org and during the 3rd floor renovation. The guys at your house let us (5 Oshkosh Betas) stay overnight on our way back home from Denver. Guys were actually giving up their beds for us, it was truly 'brotherly'. Your President at the time took us out on Main St. , I forget the name of the bar, but it was a blast (Main St. Cafe??????). The drink special that night was '$2.00 pitcher of anything', so to say the least, 5 Wisconsin-ites standing around with 5 pitchers of beer. God was that fun. We ended coming back and going next door to Theta Xi and raising a little hell. I have it all on video tape too, I think I may have to watch it sometime soon. The chef fed us the next day and everything.
We ended up staying at the Denver house, the Colorado School of Mines house and the Nebraska house during that trip. That was 3 free nights of lodging, and for the most part, free food too. Thats what being a Beta is all about...you always have a home away from home. We ended up seeing Iowa State too on the drive through Iowa.
You have a classy house, keep it real brother!
Yours in _kai_,
